Michael’s Hell

ligher
Everyone fell… one by one. I was left alone, like a walking curse. Did they fall because they got too close? Or were their ends written from the start… and my turn just hadn't come yet? This question haunted him. It echoed in Michael's mind, gnawing at him slowly, as he paced the hall with heavy steps, as if the earth refused to bear his weight. There was no sound… save his ragged breaths and merciless memories. Every face he had lost, every hand he had let go of, every life that had ended before his eyes without him feeling a thing. Until now. He stopped. He looked up… where the ropes hung in terrifying silence. Perhaps death wasn't a punishment… but a long-overdue relief. He placed his head in the noose and smiled a faint smile, as if it weren't his own. And for the first time in a long time… he wondered: Will he feel anything at last?
