Chapter 308 - Which is it?

PoV Viccy

I moved behind the man from a distance. The city moved around me, and I watched as the man moved slightly around the people moving against him. Watching and following someone in the Slums of Dark City was not easy. The darkness of the tower loomed over the world, casting its shadow over everyone on the streets.

Thankfully, being a ranger, I could see much better. I thanked my love that today I was the one to be watching the dead drop. I kept my eyes on the man as he continually strode through a group of people without them even noticing. This person knew and understood how to move through groups of people without incurring wrath as they moved through these impoverished people.

Then again, the man was clearly moving with purpose and knew where he was going. I struggled to keep up with him. I watched as he moved through street after street, and finally, I watched the most important moment. He turned to look around for a moment, then turned down an alleyway. These people seemed to like alleyways a lot, and I turned and froze for a moment before I followed down the alleyway.

Luckily for me, I saw him turn down another alleyway just as I went in, and I followed him.

I moved with purpose, and then I looked up at the tall, shaggy building. I felt like I should leap up to the roof, but instead I turned the corner and noticed the man just looking away and entering the back of a house. My eyes caught something though, and I grinned as I realized this was probably not the Necromancer. This was the middleman.

No, that was a trap in thinking. There were many things that could be true at the same time. The Sewer Necromancer did not need to live in the Sewer for him to be titled that. Titles are a trap for those with a small mind to fall into. If someone was called a Grand Wizard, you would think they could do magic. But the Title in the real world was for the most racist person you could meet, and their magic was disgusting you to death.

That also did not mean that Grand Wizard could not kick the shit out of you without magic at all.

Titles like the Strongest and the Weakest were traps, and the Sewer Necromancer might be a trap that our party and I fell into. I checked the sign and found that it was an Alchemist sign. A rare sight in the slums. An alchemist in this area, I could not help but wonder who was going to be purchasing their wares here.

The slums were the slums for a reason. Sure, there were those that were hiding here, but the amount of gold, silver, and copper here was the least in the city. Then again, like my love told me in the past when we were still in school. Sometimes there was a lack of places where people could purchase, making a market all of its own.

This could be that then my mind sharpened.

There were also those who were breaking the Law that would love an Alchemist that was hidden and unknown like this. This person was either the middleman or the Necromancer, and I was leaning towards the Middleman but hoping it was the Necromancer. My patience for this damn quest was wearing thin. We still needed to do more for the Hellfire Quest for Naughty Bunny, and now we had been stuck on this damn quest.

I sighed; this was the world that I wanted to be in, and so I checked out the door. I looked around, and except for the small sign marking this place as an Alchemist's place, there was nothing. There was no reason for me to be here, and no way to hide to watch the clientele. But there were more things for me to check. I looked around and found trash and filth littering around the alleyway, and I even saw an old, old bloodstain. Long had the blood gone black, and it no longer mattered.

Then I moved back to where I entered and started to memorize the location of this place. The slums were built from need without oversight, and so it turned into an unorganized maze with buildings being self-made most times; with no one worth their gold spending a reputable construction team here, it seemed. The people in the towers looked at the slums like a sore spot to be seen but uncared about. They would gaze down and look at it with contempt and not care about the circumstances of the ants below.

That was my impression and the Impression of my love in this city, and so I memorized the location so I could quickly find it again, then move around to the front of where the Alchemist shop was. I needed to know if there was a front and a back entrance. There was a marked difference between scoping out the inside of a legitimate business and that of a backdoor alchemist shop with no front door. The latter was clearly for underworld dealings, and I would come back with the party at a minimum. We might even need to wait for my Love to return to do it properly.

I walked around, and a sigh of relief left me as I noticed that there was, in fact, a main street entrance with the same Alchemist shop sign on it. The place looked closed an-

My thoughts stopped as the door suddenly opened, and a man stepped out looking remarkably like the man I followed. Then the man put up a sign, making it known that the shop was open. I could not help but smile as it now looked like the shop was open instead of closed, and I strode forth, walked inside, and looked around. The man turned as I followed him in, and he moved behind a counter, and I realized this was one of those shops where everything was in the back. There was no items out in front for people to browse and i smiled as I walked forward and looked at the man.

The man was brown-haired and had a professional look to him. He had lost the cloak and was now dressed in an apron and robe. Something a person could easily toss off in case of a spill. Not as good as a lab coat and proper protection procedures in a lab, but better than nothing.

The thing was, this person matched the brief moments I could see him in the crowd. This man was the middle man or Necromancer, and I could only smile. Caught the little fucker after fucking weeks of waiting. "Hi," I began, starting to get into barter, but my thoughts were on bringing others here to have a 'talk' with this man. "Do you have a list of the potions and things I can purchase here?" I asked, my mind scheming already and also on the thoughts of getting back to see who the other person for the dead drop would be. This man left something too.

The Man smiled and started to talk, but I barely paid attention. But I pretended to listen like I had so many other times when people other than my love talked and found them horrendous to listen to. It was not like I was going to purchase here. Anything he said I would find 'too expensive' and leave, and I nodded as I looked around and waited for the perfect moment to leave.
