Raindrops bounced relentlessly off the muddy road as the motorcycle sped through the downpour. The spinning spokes of the wheels became a silvery blur, merging into perfect circles. Beneath the tires, the wet earth squelched and splashed, producing a strange rhythm that sounded almost like metallic music.
The wind drove the cold rain into my face with relentless force. My eyelids fluttered against the stinging drops until I finally surrendered and shut them. By then, my green polo shirt had long since given up the fight against the rain, clinging heavily to my skin.
I no longer cared. Whether the water soaked through to my bones or left me shivering was the least of my worries. My mind was elsewhere. I kept wondering what awaited me at Aunt Uka's house.
Would she welcome me with open arms? Or would she be furious? If she was, I couldn't blame her.
