"Get the ears! Get the ears!" Yu exclaim as he pull out his razor-sharp dagger from the belt.
For a second, his sometimes slow-witted warrior side-kick doesn't understand but as Yu start sawing away at the first ear, he gets the idea and fishes out his own dagger.
Soon Yu have a bloody goblin ear stuffed into his pocket, and Reg has one of his own. Nasty? Very nasty. However, ten gold pieces are nearly six months of wages to a common laborer, So he are willing to take a hit.
"What now?" Reg asks. "Certainly there are excellent places to hide in the forest. If we can just make it till morning ..." Reg says.
"True. The goblins may have dog, and their own sense of smell is keen" Yu replies.
"We might climb a tree, then. That would at least be defensible," Reg suggests.
"You wish to be treed like a fox with goblins barking underneath?"Yu asks.
"If you wish a position that is both defensible and allows some freedom of movement, we should hasten to Castle Inverness. It is near, and could fortify ourselves behind those walls,"Reg says.
Yu frown. "It is a fortress, yes, but inhabited by what? God know what manner of creatures may have taken up residence in that ruin over the years."
But it better than nothing, so they run to that fortress.
