Chapter 180: What Brothers Carry

Torug's POV,
I led him past the last of the town's noise, up a shallow rise where the wind ran clean and biting off the forest. Up here, most of the Iron trees have been cut but stubborn scrub grass and cold, grey rocks were scattered across, along with the cut tree stumps.
Vargan hadn't said a single word for the entire walk. Alpha quickly strutted past us and headed into the treeline facing the cold valley.
"Sit," I told him, gesturing to a stump.
He dropped onto the flat stump carefully and I sat directly across from him on a rock. Close enough to look him in the eyes, far enough to give his massive orcish frame room to react without either of us pretending this wasn't happening.
"I'm sure you already know what I am about to tell you," I said, my voice steady against the wind. "You've suspected it since you heard about the stupid pressure cooker..."
