Ezra had returned to the place where everything began.
The basement looked almost exactly as it had all those years ago. The walls were still damp, the air still carried the unpleasant smell of mould and old wood, and the narrow staircase still creaked beneath the weight of anyone who descended it.
He stood in the middle of the room, looking around.
He moved towards the table and placed the Book of Summons on it. He opened it, turning through several pages until he found the section he needed. His eyes followed the familiar words, but his thoughts were elsewhere.
He had spent too long allowing other people to interfere with what belonged to him.
The seer was dead. Her house was burning. Whatever information she had kept from him had died with her.
But the arrangement remained.
And Destiny was still within reach.
He took out his phone and opened Conrad's conversation.
Ezra:It's time.
He sent the message, then put the phone away.
There was no room for another mistake.
