Chapter 78 - Whirlpool Island (1/2)

A shadowy figure walked back and forth in a dim room, only being lit by a small screen laying on top of a desk. He paced back and forth, back and forth, occupying his thoughts.

"Bzzt"

He walked closer to the desk and waited for an eager response.

"Target is on sight." A calm static voice emerged from the radio.

He wouldn't expect the day has arrived, 30 years of methodical planning has finally synthesized in a single moment. His stern gaze amongst the opaque room conjured a single thought, it is time.

"Proceed with the extraction."

The dominos had finally been set and the kegs had been piled, all it needed was a spark to set the stage of an unprecedented rebirth. No longer having to hide in the shadows, the visage of redemption finally sagged away as the true colors emerged once more.

Now is the time for triumph.

He watched as a distant island enlarged itself as the chopper flew nearer. He saw his reflection once more, even after everything, it's still him after all.

"What's it like being the Pokemon champion?" A feminine voice muttered, interrupting his gaze. He looked around and it was Lyra, being curious.

"Aren't you also the Pokemon champion for Johto?" He was confused by the question, from what he recalled, she is the champion for Johto.

"Used to. I haven't used the title for a while now." She responded with a deep sigh.

"The grandeur of the title used to have weight; ever since private corporations and politics intermingled in Pokemon affairs, it became nothing more than just another label."

"A brand ambassador of an institution designed to maintain the status quo."

Institution? Status quo? He hasn't heard of these words before, he tried making it sense but it seems way beyond his comprehension.

"Oh, my apologies." She realized what she meant. "You're too young to know this stuff."

"Don't think too much about it. While you're in Johto, collect the badges and let's battle some day! Kanto versus Johto." She grinned.

"I'll be looking forward to that." He smiled.

It didn't take awhile as the chopper landed in the helipad, the three unbuckled their belts and departed.

"We'll be back in 30 minutes." Lyra instructed the pilot.

The three went to a pathway heading to a cave. The boy is puzzled yet his pokemon is plastered with shock, amusement, and elated with the exotic environment.

"Why are we here again?" Yoake asked. Lyra smiled as she leads them deeper into the cave until they heard the sound of streams rushing through.

"Have you ever heard of the legendary Pokemon Lugia?"
