Chapter 51 - Chapter 51: Breakdown

[~10/22]

Using only basic attacks will only get you so far. No matter the player, it is extremely hard to defeat most monsters without skills. I can't really believe there is any player out there that can be a legitimate threat when it fights with only their inherit attack power.

That said, given the limited time I was fighting against, I was able to take down an impressive amount of the Inductees's health.

60% is no slouching amount. But 60% isn't 100%.

In 'Critical Condition,' isn't the same as 'Dead.'

But for the plan, I don't need this monster dead.

""Grrrukk!""The High Warrior yelled, only some meters away. Immediately, the Inductee's behavior changed. It tried to stay as close as possible to me, as if it wanted to keep me from moving and looking for a point of escape.

But I didn't need one. So I kept attacking.

The High Warrior closed in even more. And so did the Inductee. I wasn't deterred.

'Perfect.' The conditions were set, met, and fulfilled.

The only outlier was me. I needed separation.

'I suppose improv is a need. This might hurt.' I was already gritting my teeth as I enacted the dumbest action possible.

I let myself get hit.

The Inductee was not really looking to provide legitimate damage to me, so when it's wild-yet-calculated swing struck my shoulder, it's eyes widened in surprise.

Once again, the attack wasn't planned to hit, so the damage was bearable. Unfortunately, I could still feel it, albeit being with a reduced sense.

"Erk." I let out a small moan, as I withstood the pain. The only thing that could alleviate my pain, was to cause some pain myself.

The angle wasn't great, and the attack power wasn't anything rather incredible. But it drew blood, and that was enough.

The slash was drawn all the way from its waist to its neck, the viscous liquid flowing out absurdly. It immediately separated from me, confused by what happened in the last 5 seconds. And even when it gathered it's bearings, it was too late. The High Warrior was already in front of it, spear held ahead to defend. Meanwhile I was gone.

Doing what?

BLAM!!!

"[SHIELD BASH!]" The monsters were taken off their feet with the Skill. My shield dug into the High Warrior's spear, cracking and splintering it. Even with the force reduced, they were lifted.

And then…

"[Crescent Cut!]"

Crouching as far as possible with the attack, my sword rose and arced, this time unbothered by any interference.

The monsters' bodies were lifted once again.

I was relentless. Strike after strike was dealt to the monsters suspended in the air. I immediately felt the strain I was causing on my body by swinging so fast and so hard, but I had no other legitimate option.

Only with this could I get closer to outlasting them. But no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't overcome the attacks-per-second limit, or my own limits. Their bodies were already getting closer to me.

[Your 'Bleeding' status has subsided.]

"Guuuurah!"

"Shit!" My swinging path immediately changed from the sudden exchange.

Clang!

Clang!

Cling!

'I forgot.' Such important information left me when I was caught up with creating my plan. The other Inductee was still there.

Cling! Clang!

Blap!

"Damn it!" I was cursing crazily now. With the interruption brought about from the Inductee's appearance, the bodies of the Inductee and High Warrior finally slammed down back on Earth, as did my sky-high Hopes.

The plan was half-assed. I knew that from the get-go. After all, it was created in the spur of the moment, with no resources to play with, nor preparation. For something that was made from such a situation, I might be able to say that it was impressive.

Might.

But it didn't accomplish what it needed to in the end.

"Fuck!"

My anger, as well as my sword lashed out at the Inductee. A barrage of attacks that took no heed from deflections, counters, or blocks. Even amidst the attacks received, I just slashed and slashed. I was going through a complete breakdown of expectations.

"Grrak!"

'... Damn it all.'

[You've lost 500 health.]

[You have received the 'Bleeding' effect!]

The High Warrior was up again.

Now I was being attacked by two enemies, and one of them, I am not sure I could defeat if we were ever to clash by ourselves.

No... I already know the answer to that. The whole reason I was in this situation was because of such a fight.

Cling!

Clang!

Clung!

I was backing away as I received their attacks. Knicks and cuts revealed appeared every swing. I was about ready to give myself up to this degrading end.

Until I realized something nudging my foot.

'...!'

'[Daunting Throw!]'

My sword was released from my grip like lightning bolt.

Clang!

The High Warrior deflected the attack and slammed it onto the ground, with an attack following the subsequent action immediately.

CHK!

[You've lost 200 health.]

[You've lost 10 health.]

"Geh!" The High Warrior's spear pierced my abdomen, with 'Bleeding' damage following.

"...Grrt?" The confusion from the High Warrior's voice was picked up immediately.

Why?

Because it's attack pierced not only my body, but the near-dead body of the Inductee that was on the floor not even a second ago.

"Guuurrr...." Its death woes fell on deaf ears as its body began to turn into particles. Amidst its fading, my hands latched onto the spear embedded in my body. My teeth almost cracking from the force-related pain, I pulled out the spear out.

And then I pulled it in.

"Gurrrr-!?"

I had no weapon in my right hand. If I used it, then it would provide pain, but not damage. But in my left hand laid something else.

It wasn't a weapon. It was a tool made to protect from , prevent, and alleviate pain. It would never be chosen as the first course of damage. Orthodoxically, it would be used to stop the damage from being felt.

I, myself, am not so Orthodox.

...

BRRRRRAKKKKK!!!

[Critical!]
