Elder Madam Lanzo's face creased with worry as she stood her ground. "Marcus, enough. We're discussing this as a family, not as adversaries."
Marcus Lanzo's expression turned icy. "I'm discussing it with my daughter, Mother. And I'd appreciate it if you let us handle it. I will not allow my daughter to be used against me."
Sophie's eyes met her grandmother's, and she saw a warning there. She nodded slightly.
Marcus Lanzo leaned forward, his voice dripping with venom. "You think you're all grown up to question me, Sophie? You're playing with fire."
Sophie's heart pounded, but her voice remained steady. "Can't we talk this out peacefully, we are a family after all."
