Chapter 100 - The Underground Ceremony

The air grew heavier, richer, as if it were infused with centuries of unseen life. Ivory's heartbeat accelerated, and she realized her nerves were firing in ways she hadn't expected.

This place wasn't merely underground. It was beyond the world she knew.

And now, she knew its existence and was now apart of it.

The doors opened.

The three stepped out; Lily and Ivory were in awe at the beautiful yet ancient scenery that stood before their eyes. The caves were a light gray with crystalline walls and stone floors; the cave had many conulites and potholes all around it that showed beautiful rivers and other entrances and sinkholes to other residing caves -- rootsicles and columns were everywhere from the ceiling to the walls of the caves pathways.

Rover turned to them and gave them each a small potion bottle. "Drink these; they'll help you adjust to the air here. They won't taste that great, just drink it all at once. You'll begin to feel the effects of the air soon."

Lily and Ivory both drank their potion and coughed after gulping in one take.

"Let's go," Rover rushed them.

Rover's hand brushed Ivory's briefly, a reminder that she had no choice but to follow. Every step carried her deeper into the unknown, further from the world she had known, further into the shadow of a power that had been shaping humanity in silence for centuries.

Lily and Ivory ran after Rover, who sped deeper and deeper into the cave, through the beautiful rootsicles and labyrinth of tunnels. It got darker at some point, which led Rover to use a flashlight and command that the young women stayed close. And as the massive chamber began to open before her eyes, she realized there was no turning back.

What felt like forever suddenly shifted as light spilled from the cavern beyond — cold and sharp, and it was bouncing off jagged walls and crystalline veins embedded in the stone. A cenote with terrariums, blue crystals engraved in the walls and floor, gravel rocks as stairs, and a sinkhole at the roof was suddenly visible.

Ivory's boots crunched softly against the mineral-strewn floor, which echoed like whispers in a cathedral --- holy and beautiful. Ivory thought the cenote was the most beautiful piece of nature she'd ever seen. It was surreal.

"It's beautiful," she whispered.

"How could this exist under earth?" Lily asked.

Ivory's fingers brushed along the wall, sensing the crystalline texture. It was alive in some subtle, alien way. She could almost feel it mapping her presence, like it knew she was there. The cave was old and very much alive.

From the shadows ahead, muffled voices drifted --- voices that sounded old, ancient, disciplined. They neared the cenote from another cave that was to the left.

"They're coming," Rover whispered.

"The gang?" Lily asked.

Rover shot her a look. "The Seraphyne."

"What?" Lily's voice squeaked as the women looked at him, horrified.

"Stay here," Rover ordered, "They're expecting the gang to be here, soon. No matter what, do NOT come out or leave on your own, because they'll know you're here."

The women nodded and they watched Rover make his way to the center of the cenote and enter a narrow hallway. He came out and began to set up a podium.

The voices got closer and louder, and before the girls could say anything to each other, The Blue Dragons members, except them, joined Rover. Then, Ivory saw the midwife and doctor, and other people with tall and strong bodies, blue hair and eyes, and quaint energy join the members.

"They're… preparing," Ivory whispered to herself. Her pulse rattled her ribs. "For what?"

Then, her eyes widened.

"Lily," she said and Lily turned to Ivory, "Maybe they brought other humans here. They breed with them. This meeting might be about that."

Lily nodded and said nothing.

The Crystalline formations cast eerie reflections on the gathered crowd. Seraphyne workers mingled with humans, all eyes on the raised podium where Blue had finally stood. Everyone there clapped. Ivory saw Red enter the cenote as he held onto Lyra; Ivory stopped herself from running over there.

Blue began to speak, voice calm but commanding. "Thank you, all of you. For your work, your loyalty. For your diligence in mapping, recording, and perfecting the human genome." Blue stopped momentarily. "First, I want to thank Red, my second-in-command for always taking over when needed, for managing the main bases and members above when Ivory and I took some time off; Spike, Harley, and Rover for being loyal and diligent workers and always putting their hearts into what they do; and for Birdie and Honor for hacking the systems when needed and helping my team decipher who was really loyal and who wasn't. And of course, for helping The Seraphyne members collect DNA data on every human that exists for the next part of our mission."

Birdie and Honor stepped forward, flanking him. Ivory and Lily watched, frozen, as the members gave subtle nods, a silent acknowledgment of their contributions in hacking, infiltrating, and acquiring DNA data on humankind. The others were present, eyes gleaming with recognition, pride, or fear — Ivory couldn't tell which.

"They're sick," Lily whispered, "They're beyond proud of themselves."

Blue's gaze swept the room. "Your efforts will ensure the survival and supremacy of our lineage. The Blue Dragons will rise, as we have planned for centuries. Humanity will continue, but only through strength, obedience, and purity of blood. The weak… will be culled."

Ivory and Lily watched as Blue motioned for Lyra, and Red walked over and handed the baby girl to Blue.

Blue lifted Lyra onto the podium. Silence fell, then the crowd erupted in quiet, restrained applause — reverent, emotional, almost worshipful. Some faces glimmered with tears and happiness. The room felt simultaneously alive and suffocating, a theater of devotion and fear.

"She's mine," Blue said softly, voice carrying through the cavern as claps and whistles made the cave alive. "Ivory has given birth to my lineage. To my child Lyra. Lyra will continue our world, our control, and our vision .... dominating Earth ---"

Ivory and Lily were horrified; they sent petrified looks to one another.

"Dominating Earth?" Ivory said with a breath. She couldn't say she wasn't surprised. The Seraphyne believed in dominating humans.

"We have to stop him," Lily cried to herself.

"She'll continue perfecting humanity and eliminating those too weak to endure life itself," Blue continued. "Now that Birdie and Honor have information on all humans that are presently living on Earth now as we speak, tonight is the night ---- the night," his eyes narrowed, "we attack them. Their mortal flesh. Their mortal minds. Their mortal dreams and strength. Humanity finds themselves to be the strongest and most able, though tonight, they will see who is really fit to live on Earth, who is really fit to rule the world."

Ivory pressed herself harder against the stone, watching the scene unravel. Horror coiled around Ivory like ice, gripping her chest. Lily's jaw tightened beside her, pale in the dim light.

Ivory's mind raced. There was no stopping it from here — not openly. Not yet. But watching the ceremony, seeing Blue and everyone gathered treating Lyra as the heir to domination, the weight of their world — hers and Lyra's — pressed down like stone.

She realized, sharply, that the story wasn't over, but the scale of it had changed. They weren't just fighting Blue anymore; they were watching the birth of an empire — of control that spanned human and hybrid alike --- an empire set to destroy her race and her world.

"They're preparing her," Lily said to Ivory through chokes and tears. "They're grooming her for that… for everything he just said."

Ivory sneered at Blue behind the pillar and wall Rover told them to hide behind. "Not unless I get to him first." And she meant it.

Lily smiled and took Ivory's hand, and together they sat there, watching the entire meeting continue.

Blue held Lyra into the air as his followers --- The Blue Dragons human and The Seraphyne members ---- clapped, cheered, and yelled in joy. Together, Earth would be theirs, and humanity didn't stand a chance.
