Chapter 4 - Grass Lizard

After choosing the starter Monster that they wanted, Ye Feng and Gu Dong went out to another room in order to form a contract with their Monster. There, a small green lizard that was only the size of a human palm slowly crawled around a small glass box that allowed it to look around. Ye Feng and the Grass Lizard soon entered each other's sight and stared at each other for a few moments. The Grass Lizard slowly crawled, but couldn't go any further due to the class containing it within.

The employee put his hand in and took the Grass Lizard out, allowing it to get closer to Ye Feng. Ye Feng lowered his body before pricking himself and dripped a drop of blood onto the Grass Lizard's body.

As his blood seeped into its body, Ye Feng could feel a strange sensation, that felt like he was connected to the Grass Lizard. Immediately, he knew that he had succeeded in forming a contract with it.

"Impressive young man, without even needing to trick the Grass Lizard into accepting your blood by mixing it with food, both sides took the initiative to form the contract." the employee couldn't help but praise.

Extending his arm forward, the Grass Lizard crawled up his arm and found itself a cozy place on his shoulder. Since it was still a baby, its scales were incredibly smooth, while its color was mesmerizing to look at. Its two black eyes also gave it a cute look, and nobody could disagree.

As he successfully formed the contract, creating an inseparable bond between them that would be tied for life, Ye Feng left the room along with the employee to purchase food for it. He ended up getting enough food for two months in one go, which was quite a hefty sum on top of the price of the Grass Lizard itself.

While Papa Ye swiped the card, Mama Ye found that the Grass Lizard was adorable and couldn't help to praise it. The Grass Lizard seemed to be smart, it didn't immediately try to run away when Mama Ye got closer to it. It could probably sense the blood bond between its master and the woman adoring it.

Using his finger, Ye Feng rubbed the Grass Lizard's head, making it feel comfortable and enjoyed it. A few minutes later, Gu Dong came out with a Big Strength Beetle on his head. Looking at it, Ye Feng wondered if the former was itchy with the Monster on his head, but didn't voice his question.

After paying for everything, both families went out together for a celebration meal. Despite being only lunchtime, they acted as if it was dinner and was a little loud. After lunch, they each went home after saying their farewells.

In the car, Ye Feng rubbed the Grass Lizard's head softly as he took a look at his own status again.

His status was the same as before. The only difference was that he had no more Map Points, and had a Contracted Monster. With no Map Points available, he couldn't unlock any training methods that the Goldfinger provided. For now, he could only rely on himself to train the Grass Lizard until he had enough points.

Looking at the interface again, he discovered that his worry was all for naught.

Every training method focused on a certain area, which came with its own cost. If he earned 1 point per night, then he would have enough points to unlock every training method in almost two months. After that, he would need to save his points to unlock the information that contained the requirements to evolve the Grass Lizard into the Mirage Newt, it cost an entire 100 Map Points!

Not only that, whether or not he could gain points every night was another issue. So far he had earned one per night, but now with a Contracted Monster, it could be different. As someone who read many web novels, he was prepared for such a case if it happened to him. Even so, with the points he earned, he would still have plenty to spare by the end of the year, allowing him some points to spend elsewhere if ever needed.

Planning all of this, Ye Feng got home and brought the Grass Lizard upstairs. Leaving it on his desk, he reminded it not to go off the table in case it injured itself. Monsters were intelligent creatures, even as babies they could understand human speech. The Grass Lizard slowly nodded its head as it waited for him to take a shower.

When he came back, the Grass Lizard was seen tapping away at his keyboard on the computer. "This Grass Lizard seems to be more intelligent than normal."Usually, only a Monster that was close to entering the Infant stage could have such intelligence if they were not an Intelligent Monster such as many Psychic-type and Illusion-type Monsters.

On the computer, the Grass Lizard was searching up information about its species, watching clips of other Grass Lizards fighting. It sensed Ye Feng entering the room from the shower, but continued to watch anyway. Leaving it alone, Ye Feng thought that this was good. It could learn on its own without him needing to be there for it at every step of the way.

Sitting on the bed, he opened up the daily web novels that he hadn't read yet and started reading them.

That night, Ye Feng went to sleep with the Grass Lizard nearby. Suddenly, he felt that something was wrong and opened his eyes. When he did, he found that he was no longer in his room. Instead, he was in a large open space with grass below his feet and the blue sky above.

It's not what I think it is right?" Ye Feng thought. The Grass Lizard was connected to him, so it too knew what he meant. Both himself and the Grass Lizard started looking around, only to find themselves in the middle of nowhere.

"What if I just stayed here until morning? But what if time is stopped completely until I leave this place? D*mnit, don't tell me I'll need to kill Monsters in this place before I could leave." he thought.

Soon, something appeared in his sight that answered his questions. In the distance, he could see a black dot rushing towards him with great speed. It was getting closer and closer in his view with every passing second. Moving back, he hoped that it would be further away, only to see that it sped up even more.

Before long, he could see what was coming directly for him. It was a large black rabbit with giant ears that looked as though they could knock down even a large mountain with a single slap. This rabbit with such large ears was heading in his direction with extremely fast speed.

"F*ck, I knew it! Let's hope I get infinite revives until I can beat it. But, the thought of death countless times per night scares me." he thought. The Grass Lizard too felt this way. Knowing that they couldn't run, the duo immediately tried to face off with the large black rabbit that stopped moving dozens of meters away from them.

The Grass Lizard jumped from his shoulder and landed on the ground. Since it was green, its body blended in with the grass, making it hard to see it. Now, only Ye Feng himself was in plain sight.

"Now how the h*ll will I kill this thing? No weapons, no armor, no tools to build traps, my Contracted Monster is still a baby with no training, isn't this impossible even with infinite lives? But, who knows if I will even have that many, what if I get sent out immediately and lose my chance to get the Map Point? What if I died here and in the real world as well? Who can answer my questions?!"

"Only one way to find out." he thought.

As Ye Feng moved, so did the Grass Lizard. The black rabbit used its large ears to slap the ground and launch itself at Ye Feng who was coming for it unarmed.

Whoosh!

The black rabbit was incredibly quick in the air despite its large size. Ye Feng only barely managed to dodge it and grazed his arm in the process. Even though it was just a graze, his sleeve was torn, while blood dripped down his elbow. If it had hit him just a little bit harder, his arm would've been broken.

"This really is impossible, just a graze almost broke my arm, if I tried to punch it, I may break my fists." he cursed.

Running towards it, he lifted both arms without worrying about the injury and leaped into the air. Even though it was an impractical move, he had always wanted to try it.

Bang!

The black rabbit used its ears to block his fist and sent him flying. Since he was incredibly fit, he could roll himself up into a ball and flip backward in the air to land safely on the ground. At this moment, his fist was aching, while bones could be seen through his flesh.

Ignoring the pain, he charged at the black rabbit again. No matter what tricks he came up with, it wouldn't work since he had nothing on him, and nothing in the surroundings that he could use. Getting the rabbit to hurt itself was practically impossible as well.

Only, he knew that the Grass Lizard was hidden in the grass and waiting for a chance to attack. Even so, it was just a baby with no abilities, even he himself could kill it with a single finger, let alone this rabbit that could kill him with a single slap. It was like trying to crack a rock with an egg, impossible.

This time, he didn't leap into the air like an idiot. Instead, he ran forward using every ounce of his perfectly balanced muscles and prepared himself. He only had one idea in mind, which may work at a heavy price that even death may not be enough.

The black rabbit watched him, like prey making a futile attempt to escape from the predator. No matter what it did, it would still end up back in the hands of the predator. Hence, the black rabbit didn't move and waited for him to get close.

Stretching his arms when he got close, Ye Feng was met with an incredibly fast slap, as his body turned into meat paste in an instant. With a single slap, the black rabbit had killed him, not leaving behind even a single bone.

Seeing that Ye Feng was killed, the Grass Lizard pounced and tried to bite the rabbit. Unfortunately, it was even more of a futile attempt than what the former had tried earlier, resulting in another slap that turned it into meat paste.

Seeing nothing left around, the black rabbit hopped away as if nothing had happened. When it left, a young man, as well as a green reptile appeared in the spot that it had left.

"F*ck! That really hurt, so that's what death feels like." Ye Feng thought. Just as he predicted, he was revived after his death when the black rabbit left the area. As soon as he stepped foot on the grass, he saw a familiar black figure rushing back towards him.

"It's here." he thought. The Grass Lizard too was revived and hid in the grass. Earlier, it had experienced death with its master, thinking about it, the Grass Lizard shuddered but kept its focus on the black rabbit.

With the black rabbit coming back for them, Ye Feng who had been revived had his previous injuries healed, or rather it had been restored along with his life back to this location.

His plan didn't work. Even so, it was the best shot he had at this. He could only keep trying until he succeeded. The black rabbit was getting closer and closer, while Ye Feng prepared himself both physically and mentally. His muscles tightened, as he jumped forward with his arms aimed below the black rabbit at its legs.

Bang!

Once again, he was turned into a meat paste along with the Grass Lizard that leaped out at the same time that he did. A familiar scene was once again replayed. The black rabbit hopped away, as Ye Feng and the Grass Lizard were revived.

Immediately, the black rabbit came back and saw them again. "??? Didn't I just kill them twice now? Why are they here again?" it wondered as it rushed at them. This time, the Grass Lizard hid on the opposite side, so that they could both jump at it at the same time in different locations.

Unfortunately, it was as Ye Feng thought. Since it had two ears, it could easily swat them both like flies. Once again, they both died and were revived in the same location. By now, they had already died a few times already. Even so, they weren't used to the feeling of death.

Looking across the horizon, Ye Feng and the Grass Lizard had hardened expressions, preparing for the next fight for their lives.
