Chapter 1 - Prologue: A Fateful Meeting

One day, everything changed.

The sky cracked open as mythical beings, deities, and various intelligent races from a parallel world flooded earth.

Alan was an orphan. He never knew his parents and he never wanted to. He was going to build a life for himself by himself.

He had an exam the next day. An exam that would dictate his future. If he didn't do well on this exam, his prospects at a scholarship would fall through and his entire life would sum up to be a failure.

Cramming late at night to prepare for his exam, Alan got up desk to stretch and go for a walk. He had been studying for the past six hours, after all.

Taking a step outside from his foster home, Alan decided to go to the local convenience store to pick up some coffee. He was going to be pulling an all nighter to prepare for this upcoming exam. He couldn't risk being unprepared for this exam.

Walking along the quiet sidewalk, Alan noticed his phone constantly buzzing. It was probably his foster family pestering him to come home again. He wouldn't really pay any mind to that. He was going to be leaving them real soon anyway.

Alan's family didn't really care about him. They were only taking care of him to get the money from the foster program. He had tried to love a family in the past, but that went extremely wrong. He just hoped that he could become independent soon instead of relying on people who would leave him to starve if they could.

As Alan approached the store, he noticed a bright glow emanating from the sky. A loud noise rang out from above him as he saw the sky crack fully open and be replaced by a large, fractured mess.

Stunned, Alan took cover in an alleyway and opened his phone.

ALERT: CITIZENS, PLEASE TAKE COVER AND STAY INSIDE YOUR LIVING SPACES. DO NOT GO OUTSIDE. THERE IS AN UNKNOWN SUPERNATURAL PHENOMENON OCCURRING. PLEASE DO NOT INTERACT WITH INDUVIDUALS YOU DO NOT PERSONALLY KNOW. REPORT ANY OCCURRENCES OF SUSPICIOUS INDIVIDUALS TO THE CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT

Suddenly, Alan felt an extremely cold sensation overcoming his body. His breath turned visible and his body started shivering. The cold was so intense that he felt like he was going to die. What was going on.

"Hello child," A voice rang out from inside the alleyway.

A tall black haired woman with pale skin appeared from the dark alleyway and stepped right in front of Alan.

The woman seemed young, maybe in her early thirties or late twenties. She had long black hair that flowed to her waist and pale white skin that reflected the fleeting moonlight of the night. Her eyes were a pure white color with a crystalline pattern inscribed within them.

Alan immediately pulled out his phone, preparing to call the police. However, as he started dialing, the phone froze solid.

As the woman got closer, the air around Alan became even colder. Confused, Alan backed up. The more he inched away from the woman, the more his legs started to freeze solid.

"I am very new to this world, child. Could you give me a tour?" The woman said, still approaching the frozen Alan.

Alan noticed his fingers started to turn purple as he couldn't feel his lips any more. He was going to die here.

"It seems that the humans of this world can't handle our mana," The woman said, frowning. "Do you have any family, child?"

Alan slowly shook his head.

"Well, I know exactly what to do then!" The woman said, putting her hands on Alan's chest.

Her hand was as cold as dry ice. It was the type of chill that sends people into shock. Her slender fingers removed Alan's shirt as she placed her freezing hand directly on Alan's chest.

"You shall become my kin, Child. You shall henceforth be called Lumi," The woman said.

"Wh-what are you talking about? Please help me. I'm dying," Alan said, shivering intensely.

"Do not fret, child. Let the cold embrace you. You will soon become accustomed to it,"

A bright blue light emanated from her hand as a symbol appeared on it. Alan felt a sharp chill flowing through his body. The woman's own chest started glowing the same tinge as something flowed from her chest to her fingertips into Alan's own body.
