Chapter 1497 - 1496. Scorched Earth

Although the undead fell by the dozens every moment, the fight still didn't end an hour later. On the contrary. The mounds of bodies piling up on the green strip below the walls made it harder for the men to make full use of their techniques.

They slipped on rotten blood or stumbled over the remnants of the enemy. The skeletons and corpses, on the other hand, blended in with the environment. Playing dead, they managed to injure individual warriors using surprise attacks.

Ye Tian watched the battle with bated breath. Despite holding their formations, the men started suffering casualties as they waded through a field littered with thousands of bodies and bones. It was the absurdity and terror of the whole scenario that didn't allow him to look away.

"Ah! Stop him! Get him off me!" "Where did this guy come from?!" " Be careful of our fallen!" Cries suddenly echoed from one side of the battlefield. The warriors at the north gate had suffered casualties, but until now, it was still a stable battle of attrition.

The bodies of the man slain by the creatures had begun standing up and fighting alongside the enemy! Ye Tian grabbed the railing of his balcony. The fallen warriors ferociously rose, baring their fangs against their former comrades. The confused warriors facing them were unable to react and quickly joined their ranks.

Was this seriously happening? It was not only that their own men returned in support of the enemy that shocked him. The moment it happened, the whole horde seemed to have become slightly faster and stronger. It was not just the reanimated warriors that posed a threat now.

In the blink of an eye, they lost more than half their remaining force. The remaining 200 warriors faced almost as many dead comrades in addition to the rotten horde. Ye Tian had heard of techniques of corpse control and corpse puppets, but never of this scale or speed.

At this point, this couldn't be a natural occurrence or coincidence. Had a foreign expert from another province come to attack the Ye family? But why? he didn't doubt that their enemies would pay someone to attack them, but why would someone with such skills come to these forsaken lands?

Facing the now overwhelming army, the warriors quickly retreated behind the other walls of the Ye Family Residence. A sound move, in the young master's opinion. Although there were some casualties, the corpses were not a threat before, so fighting them in the open field was okay. Now, however, it was best to rely on their fortifications.

Under the support of the warriors on the walls, they returned back inside and closed the gates. However, Ye Tian spotted a serious problem. The arrows and bolts fired from the walls, even when injected with internal energy, could strike down the corpses. Not even when they burst the head!

Mutilated corpses, missing heads and limbs all over the battlefield had begun moving again, as long as there was enough to move with... He thought the previous scene was horrible, but the green strip outside had turned into a bloody pandemonium.

All of this mass of rotten flesh and bones was not waltzing toward the northern gate. Ye Tian's jaw dropped. The crowd pushed up against the door, calling over each other and creating piles to climb the wall!

"You incompetent fools. Are you trying to dirty our reputation?" a booming voice suddenly echoes over the northern gate, so loud even Ye Tian could hear it at the top floor of his manor.

"I guess this is over now," Ye Tian thought to himself. That was the voice of Captain Ye Man De, a Peak Golden Core powerhouse and Vanguard of the northern gate. Following the captain's indignant curse, his signature move descended from the air above the gate.

The Azure Winds were his original move, a mix of a mystical technique and sword energy. Hundreds of azure energy blades formed a giant gust of wind that would mince any target to shreds. There would be nothing left but finely cut wastes.

Blue energy drove into the heap of flesh. It cut deep into the enemy army, waste spurting everywhere, but then it...stopped? Ye Tian had seen the attack destroy a group of bandits in the past. 40 men stood no chance against the storm of fine blades, but the heap just...ate it?

The giant mound of corpses that had formed was barely cut in half before the attack was crushed by the mass of bodies. Following that, the young master witnessed a terrifying change, as the bodies stopped moving as individuals. The mountain of corpses moved as one!

As if fused by the blood and gore of their brethren, the whole pile began moving as one and took a cohesive shape! Growing from the heap were over a dozen tentacles made of corpses that whipped forward to slam into the outer walls.

Once again, the captain stepped forward to defend. Azure attack shot through the sky and severed several tentacles, but the only thing that did was cause the cut pieces to catapult into the residence. Meanwhile, those that were not cut clamped on top of the wall. They broke the walls and themselves apart, leaving the struggling body parts and reanimated corpses on top of and inside the walls.

What happened next was even more grotesque and bizarre. The broken pieces of the tentacles began reshaping on the walls. Corpses and body parts fused into horrendous meat-puppets of various shapes and sizes.

Ye Tian watched the soldiers on the wall freeze and die when they couldn't react to the new attackers. Even those who were able to move struggled for their lives in the face of these amalgamations, especially as their bodies and way to attack were alien to them.

While the captain was struggling to keep the sentient heap at bay, more corpses approached from the woods, but Ye Tian noticed something even more dire. The wooden outer gates, built from iron wood and reinforced by formations, were smoking! He could see that a hole had already appeared on their side the moment he noticed the smoke.

"Tsk!" ~The northern gate is breached. Reinforcements to the northern gate.- The young master set off an alarm using sound transmission. This was no longer something the gate guards of the outer hall could handle on their own. The guards were meant to deal with mortals and drifters. This had grown beyond a mortal threat.

~The Wave Wolf Squad is ready to join the battle.- He received an official answer.

...

Men in blue robes with a pattern of waves embroidered on them appeared on the wall, soon after Evee added an Undead Necromancer to the force of attacking commoner zombies and low-ranking skeletons. Although it wasn't a very high-level undead, it was enough to lure out some more substantial forces.

"All of those guys are above lv.80, just like the guy that split the abomination. The horde won't be able to hold on for long if this goes on," Edward commented, watching the show beside her. However, this was a fact from the beginning. These were simply undead she had collected on the way here, using low-level undead necromancers she had created from skeleton mages to roughly control them.

"Although I thought we might be at least able to breach the gate with the flesh golems, they will still fulfill their role," the immortal witch said with a shrug of her shoulders. With a wave of her staff, she cast a spell that she had never thought she would use.

However, she held no sympathy for the Ye Clan. Although their troops had apparently not joined the conquest on Little Gamma, they had supported it financially and were deeply involved with the actions of the Scene in Y-City. This clan had burned through the lives of Urthan's like firewood. Nothing stopped her from casting-
