Chapter 36 - Chapter 34: Reclaiming the Ancestral Land, and the Seat of Power

The civilian population remained largely ignorant, easily manipulated by the administration's sterilized propaganda. However, the elite shinobi clans—such as the Ino-Shika-Cho—shared a silent, collective understanding.

They had watched the Third Hokage's faction consolidate power and eliminate political rivals for decades. Resentment toward Hiruzen Sarutobi had simmered beneath the surface for years, masked only by the necessity of village survival. This systemic alienation was the administration's fatal flaw. If a catastrophic threat were to strike Konoha today, these clans would likely barricade their compounds and watch the Hokage burn rather than risk their own blood to save him.

Therefore, as the Uchiha Clan openly defied the administration and marched through the village, the other clans were perfectly content to sit on the mountain and watch the tigers fight.

'The Uchiha Ancestral Compound'

The massive procession finally reached their ancestral land in the commercial heart of Konoha. Although they had only been exiled to the village outskirts for a few years, the sight of their true home caused many clansmen to weep openly.

Simultaneously, their reverence for Jin Uchiha elevated to absolute fanaticism. Fugaku had offered them nothing but endless compromise and empty promises of integration. Jin had delivered total victory. He had broken the administration's siege and forcefully reclaimed their territory.

Jin, however, had no time for emotional displays. He stood before the gathered clan, projecting absolute, rational authority.

"I have fulfilled my promise," Jin declared, his voice cutting through the crowd. "Civilians, return to your respective homes and begin cleaning. However, you are ordered to remain strictly within the compound walls for the next several days. Do not engage with outsiders."

He turned his gaze to the shinobi ranks. "Activate the perimeter barrier jutsu immediately. Deploy standard patrol routes." Jin's eyes narrowed. "Furthermore, I want a specialized Jonin squad to conduct a microscopic sweep of the entire sector. Search the underground infrastructure specifically."

Jin's Internal Monologue: The Hokage's faction operates without a bottom line. I must assume that Root operatives seeded our ancestral grounds with explosive tags, surveillance seals, or worse before they legally vacated the premises. Trusting the administration's 'goodwill' is a tactical death sentence.

"Understood!" the shinobi roared in unison, bowing deeply.

Empowered by their recent victories, the Uchiha mobilized with terrifying efficiency. The desolate compound immediately sparked to life, filled with the bustling energy of a clan that had finally found hope.

'The Madara Estate'

Satisfied with the perimeter security, Jin was escorted by Elder Setsuna and the clan council toward a colossal, traditional estate situated at the highest point of the compound.

"Jin," Setsuna began, his tone respectful but firm. "Your political status has changed. You cannot continue operating out of a standard courtyard. The leader of the Uchiha requires a centralized command center large enough to host clan assemblies and house a dedicated administrative staff."

Setsuna gestured to the towering wooden gates. "This is the former estate of Madara Uchiha. After Madara defected from the village, it remained vacant. Even the subsequent Clan Heads, including Fugaku, chose to construct new residences rather than inhabit it. Given your monumental contributions and strength, the council unanimously agrees that you are the only one worthy to claim it."

Jin evaluated the structure as he pushed the heavy gates open. The estate was a fortress disguised as a palace. It featured a sprawling artificial lake, intricate pavilions, a massive central training ground, and a rear garden surrounded by barracks capable of comfortably housing two hundred personnel.

Jin's Internal Monologue: A three-courtyard estate of this magnitude... Madara certainly knew how to enjoy the peak of luxury. It makes his eventual willingness to live in a lightless, subterranean cave during his twilight years even more indicative of his sheer, fanatical willpower.

"If the council is in agreement, I will not waste time with false modesty," Jin stated cleanly, turning back to the Elders. "I accept. This will serve as my headquarters."

'The Cost of Loyalty'

Within two hours, a logistics team had mobilized, clearing the dust from the estate's primary tea room. As Jin and the Elders took their seats, a young Uchiha woman meticulously poured their tea.

"Allow me to introduce my granddaughter, Tsuki," Setsuna said, his voice carrying a calculated political weight. "Her shinobi talent is remarkably average—she has only awakened the two-tomoe Sharingan and lacks the genetic potential to progress further. I have assigned her to be your head administrator and personal housekeeper."

Setsuna listed the logistical necessities. "I am also transferring a full staff of civilian attendants to maintain this estate. You cannot waste your cognitive bandwidth on domestic logistics. Furthermore, as the de facto leader, protocol dictates you command a personal guard. You have authorization to select two squads of elite Jonin from the frontline ranks."

Jin remained impassive. The allocation of staff and guards was standard operational procedure; it formalized his absolute authority over the clan's resources. However, Setsuna's decision to place his own bloodline in a subordinate servant role required scrutiny.

"Elder Setsuna," Jin noted calmly, "assigning your granddaughter as a housekeeper seems beneath her station as an Elder's kin."

Setsuna waved his hand dismissively, preferring blunt honesty over tedious political maneuvering. "I am an old man, Jin. I will not survive the coming wars. Tsuki's combat potential is too low to guarantee her survival on a battlefield. She needs an untouchable patron. By placing her on your personal staff, I ensure her long-term survival under your direct protection. I hope you will grant me this favor."

Jin's Internal Monologue: A highly pragmatic maneuver. Political favors are a finite currency; if he simply asked me to protect her, that favor would eventually run out. But by integrating her into my inner circle as a useful asset, he guarantees her safety through daily proximity and utility. It is a smart play.

"I accept the arrangement," Jin replied with a curt nod.

Setsuna smiled, the deep tension finally leaving his old shoulders. The atmosphere in the tea room settled into comfortable, productive alignment.

However, the brief respite was abruptly shattered.

The sliding door slammed open. Uchiha Tadashi, a trusted Jonin commander, stepped inside, his expression grim and his Sharingan flaring with suppressed anger.

"Elder Jin, Council," Tadashi reported, bowing sharply. "An Anbu operative just delivered a direct mandate from the Hokage's office."

Tadashi looked up, his jaw clenched. "The administration is ordering the Uchiha to resume our duties and take over the Konoha Military Police Force immediately."
