There's another piece of evidence proving the existence of black holes, the "spaghetti effect." Although this may happen ordinarily, if a star gets too close to a black hole, this will be its fate. In October 2020, astronomers indeed observed the flash of a star being devoured by a black hole. Fortunately, this "tragedy" occurred 215 million light-years away from us.
