Saturday mornings in the Sy household were quieter than weekdays — not warmer, never that — but quieter in a way that emphasized the emptiness.
The sun filtered through tall glass walls, catching on the marble floors, turning the entire foyer into a museum-like display of wealth without warmth.
Steven descended the staircase and paused.
Two unfamiliar luxury vehicles were parked outside.
Inside the foyer stood three stylists, racks of luxury menswear behind them.
His mother approached with effortless grace.
"Steven."
He bowed slightly. "Good morning, Mother."
"We're doing fittings today," she said. "For the Lunar New Year celebration. Chairman Yu sent the official color palette to all hosting families. You also need to finalize yours."
He nodded politely.
"Yes. I already have my color."
Her brows lifted. "Already?"
"I coordinated with Michelle."
Calm. Natural. As if it were not an unexpected announcement in this household.
