Qiao Meixia stood up from the bench, brushed herself off, and walked out of the park gates. She quickly booked a ride through a transportation app on her phone. A few minutes later, the designated car arrived at the curb. After confirming that the license plate matched the correct vehicle on her screen, she stepped inside.
"Miss, you are incredibly lucky I happened to be right around the corner. That's why I managed to arrive so quickly." The driver said conversationally, looking at her through the rearview mirror.
"Oh... Okay." Qiao Meixia replied flatly.
Seeing that his passenger did not seem interested in engaging in small talk at all, the driver wisely shut his mouth and continued the journey in a quiet, peaceful silence.
Meanwhile, sitting in the backseat, Qiao Meixia was seriously considering the logistics of getting a vehicle for her personal use. In actuality, she already owned several high-end vehicles and customised cars scattered across various locations. However, none of those specific assets was suitable for everyday use here in this particular city. She still needed to keep a strictly low profile while staying within the Jiang family's immediate orbit.
Before long, the car smoothly pulled up and stopped directly in front of the grand gates of the Jiang family residence.
Qiao Meixia got out of the vehicle. Since the fare had already been automatically paid through the app, there was nothing else she needed to do. The driver soon drove away, while Qiao Meixia turned and walked toward the heavy front gate.
The security guards on duty immediately noticed her approach and opened the gate for her without a single moment of hesitation. Even though they did not know Qiao Meixia's exact identity or her status as the biological daughter, they had seen her entering and leaving the residence alongside their wealthy employers multiple times over the last two days. Because of that visual confirmation, none of them dared to stop her, block her path, or question her presence as she calmly walked back inside.
Qiao Meixia walked casually into the main house and immediately spotted Feng Lan and Jiang Yanna chatting intimately on the luxurious sofa in the living room. It seemed that Jiang Yanna was genuinely very close to Feng Lan.
Even though Qiao Meixia had only lived under the same roof for a mere three days, she had already long since noticed that Jiang Yanna frequently acted incredibly spoiled around Feng Lan. In fact, this clingy behaviour always seemed to become even more exaggerated whenever Jiang Yanna caught sight of her standing nearby.
It was almost as if Jiang Yanna deliberately wanted to showcase exactly how close she was to Feng Lan, as though trying to silently prove that even a biological blood relationship could never hope to compare to the deep bond they shared.
Qiao Meixia paid absolutely no attention to their little display and simply attempted to walk right past them toward the stairs. However, Feng Lan noticed her presence immediately and called out sharply.
"Qiao Meixia, stop right there." Feng Lan opened her mouth.
Qiao Meixia halted her steps in place and turned her head to look at Feng Lan, her expression completely neutral.
"Where exactly did you go today? You left the house so incredibly early in the morning without saying a word." Feng Lan questioned, her tone laced with suspicion.
She wanted to know exactly where Qiao Meixia had been wandering off to so she could keep a tight eye on her movements. The absolute last thing she wanted was for Qiao Meixia to go out and do something unrefined that would permanently damage the Jiang family's pristine reputation.
"I went out to buy some clothes." Qiao Meixia replied, delivering a straight-faced, seamless lie without blinking.
"You really should have told us beforehand, Sister Meixia. Mom and I could have easily taken you shopping at the high-end boutiques and helped you select some truly decent clothes." Jiang Yanna chimed in immediately, her voice dripping with artificial sisterly warmth.
