Chapter 27 - Chapter 27: The Duke's Request

The first prince walked with a serious yet worried look throughout the day. He was sitting on needles trying to do the best for me, even though he knew he was only a pawn. His move was nothing more than a blow on a windy day. Some may say, his title could carry him to glory, but it was only a written tale. Even what he eats and dressed were all written on the tomb. Nor he or anyone could change it, and he, himself obediently followed without questions.

He was contemplating whether to tell his friend, Sir Calisto regarding my injury. He knew he had to tell him, but he felt like he doesn't want to. Hence, he brushes it off with the thought of not wanting to bother Sir Calisto.

That evening, Duke Remus visited the first prince unannounced. His face looked as he grew older by the day.

" Your highness, may I speak with you in private?" The duke said.

The prince sent Sir Calisto out as the duke requested.

" Your highness, I know it is not right for what I am about to ask, though I believe I have to"

The duke paused his words.

"Yes, Duke Remus," Prince Lex said as he knew what he wanted to talk about. He tried to control his anger at how Duke Remus neglected me. He knew Duke Remus is a good person, however regarding this matter he prepared himself for what the duke is about to say. If it is unacceptable, he will attend to this matter on his own way.

" Your highness, I am begging you to give my wife, Lady Chlaricia a second chance. I promise this will never happen again. I have sent her to the south to reflect on her behavior," the duke said with an anxious expression.

" Is this your big solution? She hurt Deanna and you want to let her go just like that?" he was furious to hear the duke suggestion.

"Please your highness. I beg you, please have mercy. This all happened because of me. She is a good person, it is me who needs to be punished. I neglected her as soon as I married her. I am the one who change her," said the duke.

The room was silent with no words of replying from the prince but only the sound of the duke sniffling. The prince was stunned as he was reminded of his mother. Some people said his mother goes crazy as he didn't receive the love of his beloved husband, the king. One time she will cry her eyes out but next, she will smile beautifully like she was reminiscing good memories. However, nobody knows the real reason she became like that, not even her own son.

For all that he knows, everything happens for a reason. It might be true of what the duke said, but he can't just ignore what had happened. With the power that he got, though not much, he vowed to not stand silently.

" Fine, but make sure she never returns here, or even appears in front of Deanna again, "

"Thank you, your highness. I am forever grateful for your kindness and mercy."

The duke went out of the office feeling relieved, though his worries about what had happened still lingered around him.

On the other hand, Prince Lex knew he couldn't trust the duke. So, he has to take an action by making sure that what needs to happen will happen, that is Lady Chlaricia's exilement. Since she would be sent by the duke to the south, he would make sure it stays that way, with no compromise.

After the duke left the office, Sir Calisto returned to the office, curiously.

" Lex, what are you discussing with the duke?" Sir Calisto asked with a confused look, as the face of Duke Remus just now was far from a small matter.

"Just private matter. Continue your work." Prince Lex demanded. He knew he could just tell Sir Calisto, but he didn't know why he doesn't want to tell him. Hence, he unconsciously convinced himself I was a private person.

"Can't you tell me? We're friends right?" Sir Calisto started nagging. He just couldn't leave it at ease. It may be because of his personality, who is curious about everything and wouldn't let anything go when he sat his eyes, especially related to someone he cares about. Many who met him wouldn't know or believe he has a personality as such, he might seem a calm and level headed type of person, but he is far from that.

"It's Deanna. She's sick. Now go back to work," Prince Lex said, as he knew he wouldn't stop bothering him till he got the answers.

" What? She is sick? But why did the duke came here to tell you? I have just met her, she seems fine," Sir Calisto said with an anxious look.

Then, without waiting for an answer, he just walks out the door without saying a word to Prince Lex. He could feel something bad must have happened. The duke would not just unintentionally came here just to inform that.

As he was about to leave, Prince Lex shouted his name.

"Calisto, calm down," Prince Lex said, but Sir Calisto just walked out without stopping for Prince Lex.

Right at that moment, he was just anxious and worried about what could have happened to me. His mind was set on thinking about me that he couldn't even hear Prince Lex called him.

He didn't realize he was running and bumping into others until he saw the back of the head of Duke Remus.

"Duke! Wait a moment," he shouted.

Then the duke stops and waits for Sir Calisto.

" What's the matter, Calisto?" The duke said.

" Deanna, how is she? I heard she's not well," he said with a calm voice, though no one could imagine how he is actually feeling right now; anxious and scared.

"She's still not well, but she is getting better," the duke said.

" Is it okay if I go see her?" He asked.

" I am sorry. I don't think this is the right time. She is still not well," the duke said.

" Please, Duke Remus. It will be only for a while," he said.

The duke was contemplated to accept his request, but he wanted his daughter to smile and be happy. He knew that Sir Calisto and I were close, and this might be a good reason to bring Sir Calisto home. On the other hand, he thought I was still not well to accept any visitor.

In the end, he decided to bring Sir Calisto home with him.

The ride towards the household felt farther than usual. Sir Calisto's heart was beating loudly as he felt anxious like his world could collapse.

When the first time Sir Calisto met me, it never crosses his mind that I would be the most important person in his life. Day after day, his heart grows fonder.

"I miss you. Please be fine," he whispered to himself. At that moment, he just wishes to be with me always.

When you love someone, you automatically care for them, there's no love without care. You will miss them, like it is a habit. When they're not well, you wish you could take all their pain away. Even though you would not say a thing, a warm cuddle that you gave or when you slip medicine near the bedside table, were more than enough to show that you care. 'I love you' was only a small part of showing you love someone, but showing you meant it means the world to them.
