Fei Meng Chen's reputation was as much for his unworldly appearance and scholarly charisma as for his profound cultivation. A man whose smile could warm a court, and whose strike could freeze a battlefield.
Across the chamber sat a broad-chested, wide-shouldered figure, clad also in white, though his robes bore the faint sigil of the Shen Ci Empire.
He was seated with his eyes closed in thought.
But they opened now, sharp and piercing as if two blades had awakened.
"Fei Meng Chen…" He muttered with a chuckle, not bothering to rise just yet. "No one's stopping you. You're free to go... if you don't mind dying, that is."
There was no mockery in his tone, but a sharpness, a warning wrapped in amusement.
He was Shi Chang Xiao, one of the fabled 'Eight Great Masters'!
He was a Spirit Xuan level expert whose name alone could silence entire war rooms.
Where Fei Meng Chen floated like a feather, Shi Chang Xiao stood like an iron tower amidst the storm.
Fei Meng Chen's smile widened, the corners of his eyes crinkling with mischief.
"Ah… such grim words, Brother Shi." He clasped his hands behind his back, pacing with exaggerated leisure around the room. "But how cruel to douse my excitement with such cold water. Must you be so stern, even tonight?"
Shi Chang Xiao raised an eyebrow, unmoved. "Excitement doesn't matter in front of the abyss."
Fei Meng Chen tilted his head slightly, looking out the window. The shadows of lightning danced on the glass as thunder boomed like war drums in the distance.
"I have heard," Fei Meng Chen said, still staring at the storm, "that the peak level nine Xuan Core's appearance brings not only warriors, but also… madness. Brother Shi, even the calmest rivers overflow when the moon is full."
He turned sharply, the glint in his eyes playful, but with an undercurrent of calculation.
"Surely, you do not wish to let this night pass from within four walls?"
Shi Chang Xiao finally stood, the floor beneath his boots creaking ominously under his weight. A slow grin formed beneath his trimmed mustache.
"You speak of moons and madness, Fei. But you always were more poet than predator."
Fei Meng Chen's robe fluttered slightly as he chuckled.
"And you always were more blade than bard. A shame. You'd have made a fine lyricist."
"I prefer my verses written in blood," Shi Chang Xiao replied coolly, already moving toward the open courtyard.
As he stepped out into the rain, the very air seemed to tighten around him. The storm didn't dare touch his body; the raindrops that fell near him evaporated in the aura of his power.
He took one step.
BOOM!
Then, he launched into the air with a single spring, his body streaking upward, hanging in the sky like a white wolf surveying the land before the hunt.
Fei Meng Chen's smile never faltered.
"Ah, Brother Shi…" He whispered, raising his head, "…others may see you as one of the 'Eight Great Masters'… but let us not forget, in this chamber — I am still the one in charge."
With a laugh that was both elegant and free, Fei Meng Chen shot into the air after him, his robes trailing like ribbons through the storm. He left behind nothing but the echo of his chuckle, and the sudden rush of wind as his feet departed from the tiled floor.
------
The city of Tian Xiang was no longer a slumbering beast under the storm.
It had become a battlefield in waiting.
The sky itself roared, echoing the wild symphony of thunder and wind — as if it were announcing the arrival of calamity.
And from all four directions, power surged!
Three ghostly silhouettes sliced through the sky from the northern edge of the city.
The Third, the Sixth, and the Eighth Elders of Silver Blizzard City were flying side by side, faces grim, eyes sharp.
Their long white robes fluttered violently in the gale, yet they moved with effortless speed, undeterred by the violent crosswinds.
The Sixth Elder growled, "I can feel it clearly now! The Xuan Core's Aura… it's pure, condensed... far beyond level six!"
The Third Elder, the eldest and sharpest, remained silent, his pupils glowing faintly like frozen stars.
The north wind howled behind them as they surged forward, a frozen tempest riding toward the storm's heart.
From the dark eastern alleys, ten white-robed figures darted across rooftops and leapt over market domes, moving like ghosts beneath the storm clouds.
Each step was weightless.
They were the ten associates of Li You Ran.
Led by the tall, iron-eyed middle-aged man and the thin, cruelly smiling tracker, they formed a deadly crescent formation.
Their leader's voice rang low: "We're not here to fight. We grab the core and vanish. In and out."
The woman with the embroidered sash beside him chuckled, "Let's just hope the others aren't thinking the same…"
The wind devoured their laughter, and the group vanished into the sheets of rain, their energy cloaked tight, lethal, and silent.
Like a pair of roaring dragons, Shi Chang Xiao and Fei Meng Chen flew with terrifying velocity at the head of a squad of six Sky Xuan experts.
The Sky Xuan squad fanned out into formation, their movements sharp, the color of their Auras slicing through the grey sky like blades of blue and earthen light.
Shi Chang Xiao's voice was cold and absolute. "Clear everything. Leave none who stand in our way."
Fei Meng Chen laughed from the side, his white sleeves dancing like wings. "Let us not be so greedy. If someone dies, let it be… with elegance."
And then, from the blackest curtain of rain came a shrill hissing sound, sharp as a blade being unsheathed in the wind.
HIISSHHH—!
A single black figure hurtled toward the source like a lightning bolt, so fast the air itself tore open behind him.
His robes flapped violently, crackling as they split the air. Every gust of wind shrank before his advance.
This was The Solitary Falcon!
Jun Mo Xie had specially told him not to get involved, but how could a martial fanatic like him stay put and not join in the fun?
His eyes were narrowed and his body taut with power as he glided mere inches above the rain-soaked rooftops, each movement cutting the sky like a hawk striking prey.
His voice was like thunder grinding through gravel.
"Young Master Jun better make this event fun…"
All four directions converged, and their destination was the small, broken-down cabin, crowned by golden light and humming with an impossible energy.
From every corner of the sky, earthen yellow, sky blue, and pale silver lights flashed violently, tearing through the clouds like shooting stars.
