Chapter 8 - CHAPTER 7

The hover car glided past the street smoothly, bypassing many flying vehicles and the people in the pedestrian lane and the side of the streets.

Along the way, you can see tall buildings with floating cameras. Big screens dominated the top of those buildings as well as that of the stores or shops, advertising many products or showing the everyday news from all over the world.

The noises that the big screen did dominated all the other noises, but it did not create discordancy but somehow manage to create an image of a prosperous and rich city.

The one thing worth noticing about the surroundings was that every corner, as in every corner there are plants planted. Every modern building have small plots protruding from each floor covered with lively and healthy plants, obviously receiving great care.

In the middle of the wide street, trees with grass covered ground abounded. All the plants' leaves have varying shade of color, like they have been splashed with paints of rainbow color, adding life to the grey, thriving city.

These plants and their unique colors are testament to the fact that the humans have once suffered a catastrophe that once almost made them extinct, like how they did with the various extinct animals.

More than 2000 years ago,for some unknown reasons, a great blackout occurred. All living creatures on Earth that day fell unconscious, all machines and other equipments stopped. Creating an eerie silence, and when they woke up a week later, everything is different.

They are not sure if they are even still on their own planet. The humans have found that they are still at their homes, offices, schools, bars, restaurants, and the places they are at when they fainted.

The differences are that they are surrounded by gigantic trees, by 2 feet tall grasses and humongous flowers. What makes matters worst are that giant carnivorous animals appeared and preyed on them, instantly reducing the human population by half.

Even herbivorous big animals attack irrationally and shared in contributing the demise of humans. It was as if the humans have accidentally entered the Giants world, as even insects became the size of dogs.

Survival was not easy. The only thing that the humans found to be safe, in their relief, was that despite growing big and having glowing colorful leaves, the plant have not mutated into something that also eats and kills humans..

Aside from their weird size and colors, the edible plants and their fruits remained edible, with triple the nutrients they have. Herbs also increased their potency. Of course, poisonous plants too.

But as long as they can still recognize the original form of the plants, the humans will not starve as plants are abundant to the point of overcrowded. Well, even if plants cannot actively attack humans, some still died because of carelessness such as eating poisonous plants, and scratching their skin with it accidentally.

One of the disaster that came one after another is that bacterias and viruses suddenly became more active.

Without immediate treatment and proper medicine, a person can die within a day because of infection and sickness. Many new viruses was born, crating new illnesses. It has only been remedied when scientists and medical officers made use of the potent herbs to treat them.

But because of the delay, it became one of the major cause of death of humans aside from being killed by the animals.

The science and technology also took a great hit as many great minds was killed, as well as various devices broke down after that one week blackout for unknown reasons.

Many facilities was destroyed by rampaging animals as well as the works of the forefathers accumulated over time. The humans that once dominated the world fell to the bottom of the food chain. At that time, humans once again entered the prehistoric times.

But despite all of that, humans survived. From the initial billions of population to the pitiful single digit of million, the humans gathered with difficulty, slowly building a safe haven for them, creating weapons, making medicines and potions, and slowly increasing the population.

Maybe Mother Nature began to take pity of the humans, making them extremely fertile to give birth to many offsprings to compensate the loss of a massive number of humans.

Apart from that, the human's physique also grew strong, they grew a lot taller, with the men's average height at 6 feet and the women at 5'9. Their immune systems also strengthen, making their wound heal fast within a week and creating antibodies to many unsolvable diseases and its defense mechanism to soar.

Through sheer effort, the humans fought wars against the giant animals and animal tides, slowly expanding their area and adding one by one walled cities that protect them from danger. Although slow because of the big loss, the technology advance to the state it once was and made small breakthroughs by the contribution of the new brilliant minds that arises.

It took more than 2000 years to be what they are now. Among the changes and discovery humans made, what amazed, puzzled, and made them afraid was that it was as if they are transported in a different dimension, or another dimension merged with their dimension, making Mother Earth evolved.

The small earth grew to 3 times its size, and it's waters only accounting 39 percent while the rest was land. The scattered continents they once knew became whole again. The hours tripled. The Sun became twice it's size and the Earth is now sixth in the orbit.

The planets they once knew was no longer there and new ones emerged. Now they even feel that Earth was not their Earth. It collapses everything they knew and what they believed in. But that does not stop them. They only knew these things. Survive and once again rule the food chain.

In the present, the continent that are now whole was simply called Totum, divided into 4,and was also simply named and divided as the East, West, North, and South regions .Hundreds to thousands of walled cities was established. Maybe because humans believed that the Earth retaliated and was punishing them because of their destruction of nature, they barely touched the forests and mountains by excessively deforesting and plundering resources, and the walled city that was built was covered by trees and plants.

All products they use, from the gasoline for vehicles to containers was made biodegradable and eco-friendly. They dare not challenge the authority of nature again.

The tall city walls and various hot weapons atop of it made humans safe from the animals in the forests beside the cities, and it became a boundary between the residents of humans and the natural habitat of animals.

Because of it, the battles between species naturally died down with the long passage of time, with only a occasional attack from an irritated or frustrated animal that was quickly subdued. The era of peace was regained. Or so it seems.

The hover car containing the Lu family arrived at the front of the Registration office. The four of them stepped down, ready to settle the issue of adopting and adding Alban to the mall family tree.
