Chapter 10 - : Eluding Annihilation (1)

"Wow, uh, that's crazy."

I don't really know why I said that, but to be honest that's the only words I could think of. How bad did my luck have to be to not only hit a random pedestrian on the street, but that random pedestrian turning out to be my boss? All of this on my first day as well.

"That was, not the response I expected to be honest," Angela said in a disappointed tone as the office door shut behind her. "I was really hoping you'd freak out."

I shrugged, "You know, I'm honestly just so mind-blown that all sense of reason has left me."

"Hmm."

Angela walked towards me and leaned down so we were face to face. She was around 6′ 4″ in height so she towered over my measly 5' 10" form.

"Is that flattery or are you trying to find an excuse?"

"No ma'am, I'm being 100% serious." I squeaked out.

'Jeez, what an aura."

Underneath her petite stature lay was a sinister and fear-inducing aura that emanated off of her body. Her orchid-colored gaze pierced my skin and caused ripples of chills to cascade across my body; a glance at any single modicum of her body filled me with so much fear that it took every ounce of my willpower to not falter. She was truly a woman befitting of their position.

"But wait," a confused look appeared on my face. "Why were you dressed like a nurse? Also how did I not notice that you had clothes on underneath the scrub?"

"Dunno, maybe you're blind," she responded. "My thought process was that you'd be less alarmed and more willing to divulge whatever was on your mind if you didn't realize that who I was."

Hmm, fair. I thought to myself.

But now that I know who she is and she knows who I am, what is going to happen to me?

Running into your boss at Mach 2 isn't a good look, especially if you're the one that ends up unconscious. But what is she going to do? Kick me out? Fight me?

A fight would end in a situation akin to what had happened to us earlier, but...

It would be fun, no?

Another cascade of shivers rippled across my body, but this time it wasn't because of fear.

"Ma'am, can I ask you a question?"

"Using honorifics now are we?"

I gulped.

"What time is it right now?"

She leaned back from facing me and rolled up her sleeve, revealing a sleek 24-karat gold timepiece.

"It's 8:49, why?"

A smile crept up on my face. I've got eleven minutes to spare, might as well do something that crossed my mind the moment she revealed her identity.

My breath quickened at the thought.

"Do you mind if I ask you a favor?" I asked as she looked back up to face me.

"Another question? You're pushing your luck kiddo-"

"Can I spar against you?"

As soon as she heard my question her face stiffened up.

"S-spar against me?" Angela barely managed to say with a straight face. "But don't you have class soon?"

"It won't take long." I responded firmly.

"Hmm, why should I though?" she asked. "I'm a very busy woman and this is the first day of classes after all. What makes this worth my time?"

"To be honest with you, if we spar the winner of the battle would be quite obvious." I answered honestly.

She scratched her head. "Then why do you want to even fight me?"

"For the thrill of the fight of course!" I exclaimed loudly, my proclamation echoed throughout the floor.

Almost immediately after I spoke, Angela grabbed my shirt collar and shoved me back in the medical room, closing the door behind us.

"Are you insane?"

She then glanced towards the ceiling, slightly tilting her head back and forth.

"Well, then again you are Dr. Catherine's disciple so it wouldn't be too far-fetched."

She pondered for a few more moments before she finally loosened her grip on my shirt.

"So, are you a battle junkie?"

"Of course!" I exclaimed in excitement. "The adrenaline rush of facing an enemy that outclasses you in every single facet imaginable sounds amazing!"

She let out a sigh.

"I was really hoping you were gonna be normal; we don't have many normal people here."

She took a few steps back.

"But I guess I've never had someone here challenge me to a fight straight up either."

My eyes lit up. "Does that mean-"

"Yes, damn. Cool your jets kiddo. All new teachers are required to go through a personality screening as an icebreaker during the first week of classes so I figured this would suffice"

Angela reached into her pocket.

"Besides, you being the disciple of Dr. Catherine gave me the impression that you were just a crazy bookworm, but those eyes of yours," she licked her lips in anticipation.

"I like them."

Suddenly, a giant wave of blackness erupted from Angela's body. The black wave rose and surrounded the both of us until it blanked out the sun.

"I hope you can live up my expectations, disciple of Catherine." she scoffed as the black waves crashed down on the two of us, enveloping us whole.

In its wake, not even dust remained.
