Those words terrified Luna Warner. It was as if her innermost thoughts had been laid bare, and she couldn't help but tremble.
"What are you talking about? Why would I be nervous? I'm just furious that you hurt my child like this."
Penelope Hale retorted, "I didn't hurt your child. You were the one who hurt him, weren't you? If you hadn't tried to trick me with that newspaper, why would I have thrown the kid?"
Luna was truly dumbfounded now. The woman on the other end had really seen right through her.
A soft chuckle came from Penelope Hale's end of the line. She lowered her voice and added, "You must be terrified right now. You're more afraid of me getting caught than anyone else, aren't you? I was thinking about it later. Why would you be stupid enough to try and save your son that way? Turns out, you weren't trying to save him at all."
Luna just cursed her bad luck. 'How could a person like this see right through me?'
