She needed to tell the boy to stop being so attached to her, to go back to his family, so that everyone could return to their rightful place.
But Gui Sha just laughed. "You're too close to the situation to see it clearly. Maybe you haven't even realized it yourself, but that child has unwittingly taken over your heart."
Those words startled Vera Warner. She stared, at a loss, at the man before her who seemed to understand her so well.
'If what he said is true, doesn't that mean I can't just sever my ties with the boy?'
Vera Warner was speechless, but Gui Sha quickly spoke again. "I've found the woman's identity. Her name is Penelope Hale. She's a fugitive. She was locked up for a few years for child trafficking, escaped from prison two years ago, and now, it looks like she's back to her old tricks."
