Vera Warner had no way to refute what Ron said. If she had just followed his orders from the beginning and assassinated Patrick Peyton, this all would have been over.
But when she learned Chloe Warner was in Lucy White's hands, she had no time to think about anything else. She was terrified something would happen to her daughter.
'She knew this was a path of no return, which was exactly why she would never let Chloe walk it. How could she possibly let them dictate her fate?'
When she didn't respond, the voice on the other end continued, "Patrick Peyton must die. This is the first mission you've been given in a year. If you can't complete it, don't blame us for what happens next."
She could feel the ruthlessness in Ron's harsh tone. Vera Warner knew she couldn't refuse this task.
"I'll complete the mission!"
"Good. And while you're at it, get rid of the rest of the Pemberton family. They're a huge liability, and the higher-ups want them all dealt with."
