The Midnight Battalion, when it started, had only a few hundred members. Moreover, all of them had the Death Counter Bloodline. However, over the years, Leonidus, the leader of the battalion, had strategically added more members with various bloodlines.
The only thing he didn't do was add members who didn't originally come from the Midnight Inn. It wasn't because he wanted to discriminate against them - it was simply because outsiders could not achieve the level of synergy they had. That synergy was extremely crucial, especially since the Midnight Inn granted them various benefits and formations, such as augmentations and the Midnight Mech.
Still, he did not let the battalion grow too large. He followed the principle of a few elites over large numbers. After all, the Inn could have more than one battalion, and more than one army. Someone else could go the numbers route if they wished.
