Little Taotie blinked: "I feel like you're saying something, but then it seems like you're not saying anything."
The peach tree laughed: "You can't understand it now, but when it's time, you will. Whatever you can understand, that is what it is."
Little Taotie furrowed her eyebrows, sat down where she stood, leaned against the old peach tree, and reached out to pick up a fallen peach from the ground: "If the destiny of a fallen peach is to become fertilizer, then I've changed this peach's destiny."
The peach tree laughed: "Yes, a peach's fate seems just like that, and if it hasn't grown firmly, it falls from the tree and becomes nutrients for other peaches. But there are always exceptions. Just like human destiny isn't spotless or unchangeable; some leap off their paths."
"Grandfather Peach Tree, am I this peach?"
"Why would you say that?"
"Isn't that what you meant?" Little Taotie tilted her head, somewhat puzzled.
