Chapter 37 - The Heart, The Mind, And The World.

The bright blue light of the system greeted him as he opened his eyes as he went from standing in a void of darkness and oblivion to a blur of sounds and colors filling his senses, and he looked around dazed and confused to find himself back in the hallway where he had that confrontation with Turb, though to his surprise and amazement, the hall was normal, littered with the normal academy staff and students, though there was no Turb... truth be told, it was slightly off; everything seemed to be skewed as if the world wasn't the same as he left it. Kore's mind raced before coming to a full stop as he glanced to his right and saw the system floating there, waiting for his input.

He stared at the blue box as he looked over his stats; the shock following the events still had him stunned, but this new skill had taken priority over the shock of the events that had just occurred. He wanted to see what this Mind's Eye was; quickly he headed back to the dorms. It didn't matter to him.

[...]

Standing by himself in his dorm room, he found himself staring at an ornate short sword littered with adornments. It was a blade of fine craftsmanship it felt right in his hand, and it hummed a resonance with his soul, a deep feeling that came from within his chest. The blade called out to him it was almost innate as he swung the sword in the empty air with precision and expertise despite never being all that skilled with blades this long. The steel cut through the air with a whistle before he de-summoned it, leaving nothing in his hands but the memory of the weight.

"Huh…" he muttered to himself. "I think there may be something more to this. I don't know what it is, but I certainly feel... different." His brief monologue was cut off by the rapid beating of the dormitory's door and the voice of Lilly.

"Kore! Are you in there?" Her incessant knocking continued before he walked over to the door and opened it. "Where have you been? You missed an entire day, and you didn't even give Headmaster Reginald any warning... though you do look kind of pale, so I'll put in a good word for you and say you were sick, but this can't be a common thing because they have no tolerance for skipping here."

"Y-yea... I was just sick I think it was a cold or something this morning I must've woken up with, I'm not sure though..." The lie was weak, and he knew that she had seen through it, but it didn't matter, he glanced back at the window that was on the far wall of his dorm room to see the setting sun in the distance; its vibrant and beautiful colors painted the formerly blue sky like a canvas filled with a deep orange and hints of purple. "I just slept the whole day away I guess, but thank you for checking up on me." He'd flash a smile, which was rare but she also did before speaking. "Alright Kore, just… I'll see you tomorrow and make sure to get well soon, if you aren't feeling any better later then you should probably go see Mrs. Darleen in the medical building. Anyway see you later!" With that she was off, leaving him standing in the doorway looking dumbfounded by her kindness. "Alright... then." He slowly shut the door and walked back into the room, he noticed the lack of bedhead in the room that was usually back around this time, a thought that was short-lived as the sound of the door opening and closing was heard.

"Hey..." a tired-sounding voice muttered out. "I'm back." Kore gave a slight nod but nothing more as he went though he noticed a different more awake his green eyes shimmered as they were more vibrant and emerald looking and his black hair was less messy and more tidy... his whole hairstyle and appearance had changed but he still had that same demeanor of tiredness. "Special occasion or something?" He asked Zyn.

"What do you mean?" A puzzled expression crossed Zyn's face as he stared at Kore. "Are you alright did you hit your head or something what do you mean?"

"I mean you know... you just look more cleaned up or what ever... did you not have any run ins with Turb or something today?" Kore asked with a similarly puzzled and confused expression.

"Who is Turb?" Zyn asked. "Is he new or something what do you mean run-in?"

And with that Kore's expression went blank as he turned away and began tidying his bed. "Nevermind.. I think I might be remembering something incorrectly." The events hours prior that he experienced seemed nonsensical... he had been familiar with the name Turb but the more he thought about it the more it seemed distant and distant nothing but memories that were made up by him in his head... maybe it was just his imagination he wasn't sure maybe he really did hit his head and-

[ Do not lose yourself. ]

The blue illuminated box appeared in front of him with no warning.

"..." He stared at the text in silence, the gears in his mind turned as he read, this system seemed more expressive it seemed slightly different... and judging by the description, he knew that those memories that he was referring to were very real but only to him. He wasn't sure what had changed the world, but one thing was certain. This world had erased Turb and built around the gap that was there filling it with something else but as he thought he didn't have any memories of any bullies or hostile people within this newly rewritten world only just a normal school life. Quickly he tried to pivot his mind with the thought of what is done is done and nothing can be changed.

He had points to assign and they weren't helping him any by just rotting there so he began assigning points to each category he took note of the massive health and mana jump as he cracked a slight smile at his new stats.

[ New Skill : Precognition {Level 1} !]

The skill seemed pretty cut and dry... "Hey Zyn, could you do me a favor?" He'd ask as he turned around to face him.

"Sure, what's up?" A response from the bed came.

"Could you just toss this pencil at me? I just want to test something." Kore would grab a pencil from his desk and toss it to Zyn. "I'm going to face the other way and when I say 'go,' you'll toss it at me." Despite the confused expression on his face, he'd respond with. "Alright." Kore would turn around and activate the skill before saying "Go!" toward the wall.

[ Precognition Activated ; 3 seconds. ]

It was almost like Deja Vu as his body seemed to react on its own as he side-stepped and caught the pencil with no wasted movement. "Alright, thanks." Kore said before returning to his stats.

[+4 Strength]

He pondered for a moment weighing his remaining stats before dumping the rest into intelligence, it just seemed like the thing that made the most sense considering that he was going to school, and with the dungeons having so many puzzles, it would be a boon to have faster and deeper thinking.

He scanned over his stats before closing the menu with a smile, he hadn't smiled this much in a long time but maybe that was a good change. "Hey Zyn I'm going out to pick up dinner. Do you want anything?" He looked over his shoulder as he made toward the door. "Sure... just something small I'm not all that hungry right now. "Alright, I got it," he'd respond before walking out.
