Rui's eyes widened with surprise as nuclei that came in contact with the blade on its way down spontaneously split apart, causing a double-wave-like nuclear explosion to emerge on either side of the blade.
He exerted his Martialverse to wash away the impact before it could reach the elder sage.
WHOOSH!
"Incredible!" The elder sage grew as giddily excited as a child. "To think it is so sharp, no, this is beyond sharpness. This is something truly profound."
"You're right," Rui remarked with a curious expression. "No amount of sharpness could cause something like that to happen."
There was a gap between non-bonded atoms and molecules, driven by the Pauli exclusion principle that prevented them from truly contacting each other. At the quantum level, a sword that was as sharp as only one atom at the edge would still have caused other atoms and molecules to bounce away.
So why did this sword literally cut through the nuclei of atoms?
