Yet another police officer said gloomily, "If we really detain them and something happens to them in our detention room, we simply can't afford to take responsibility."
A sense of grievance filled the faces of the three.
As frontline police officers, they believed they had acted appropriately. They had advised the elderly and facilitated a reconciliation between the parties, avoiding escalating the situation to an unmanageable level. Otherwise, if they had really brought those elderly people to the station, they would have no peace, unable to even sleep. These were not just elderly people; they were veritable Bodhisattvas whom they had to attend to with the utmost care at all times.
