Alex was startled by Liza's sudden declaration that she sensed magic on Alice as she came hurriedly toward him after her "private" conversation with their hottie professor Janeth.
He had heard almost all of it. Every word, every whisper, and the fact that Janeth had asked so much about him left him uneasy. He had thought she was just charmed and hooked by him, but her expressions never showed submission or loss of control. She remained sharp, unpredictable, always in command of herself and the room.
He asked Liza again internally, voice tense in his mind.
'What do you mean you sense magic on her?'
Liza answered quickly, tone cautious but not alarmed. 'Not the dangerous kind, handsome. It's just a very faint, very faint scent of magic on her cheek. I can barely sense it, like a trace left behind by something passing over her skin. It's already fading.'
