"Ahh~ how cute, Mom!" Ash said, patting the empty space. "Your turn."
She shifted her weight off Alex's right thigh, hopping onto the counter edge. Anna slid off his left, settling beside her. Both girls looked at Mary with eager grins.
Alex looked up at Mary, his expression warm and inviting. He spread his legs open slightly, creating a space right in the middle of his lap.
He patted it gently. "Come here."
