Alice's smile held for one more second, and then it crumpled as everyone's eyes were on her, waiting for a response to the questions.
Her hands flew to the hem of the black hoodie and twisted it around her fingers, her sapphire eyes going wide and glassy, her bottom lip caught between her teeth. "Oh no... Lily, I'm so sorry about the texts!"
"You can't just send someone that in your first time talking with them!" Lily kept her arms crossed, the phone still gripped in one fist. "Do you know how it sounded? You creeped me out!"
"I know, I know!" Alice bowed so deep her ponytail swung over her shoulder and stayed there. "I got nervous... I wanted us to be friends, and I didn't know how to start, so I wrote the first weird thing that came to mind, and it came out creepy." Her chin trembled. "I'm really sorry."
Alice's apologies seemed too genuine, it made Lily sound like a villain.
