In front is a towering mountain reaching into the clouds.
The stone steps, five meters long and half a foot wide, are exceptionally steep at seventy degrees, like a ladder to the clouds, stepping on them seems as if one could ascend to the heavens.
At the mountain top,
amidst swirling clouds, there is a temple looming in and out of sight.
Lin Baici did not rush to go up, because on either side of the stairs, there were prayer mats, with a monk sitting cross-legged on each.
There were two every meter, extending all the way up.
These monks wore bamboo hats, had Buddha beads around their necks, wore uniform white inner garments with black monk robes on top, and grass sandals woven from spear grass on their feet.
They didn't hold Zen Canes but instead had their hands clasped, in a posture of prayer.
In front of each of them, there was a wooden fish.
