Chapter 6: What She Doesn't Say
"You should leave."
The words come out harsher than she intends.
Justin studies her. "Why?"
"Because this—" she gestures weakly between them, "—it's not possible."
"Isn't it?" he asks.
Her chest tightens.
"Yes," she says firmly. "I have a husband. A pack. A duty."
"And what about what you want?"
She laughs.
A hollow, broken sound.
"That stopped mattering a long time ago."
Something dark moves behind his eyes.
But he doesn't push.
"Then I'll wait," he says simply.
Her heart stutters.
"Don't."
"I will."
