"Do you truly not plan to accept becoming the next king of the elves?" the Empress inquired. She clearly wanted to know more about his plans for the future.
"I don't. I never wanted to," Alwin immediately refused.
"Are you sure? You may not be close to them now because you live on Ferdinand's island. But are you sure you do not want to mingle with your own kind? If you socialize with them more, you may grow to understand them more and realize the position isn't so bad."
Alwin frowned at the Empress. His uncle had spoken with her last time. Alvis must have told her about his continued refusal for the throne.
"Did Uncle put you up to this?"
"Huh? No, I just wanted to know what you have in mind. Alvis did not ask me to convince you or anything of that sort," the Empress clarified. "I was just wondering. Are you sure you don't want to lead the elves? What if you regret refusing it someday? Isn't it better not to completely close doors until you are sure you would never want it?"
