As for Candle Dragon Venerable, he's the complete opposite. He, as a god, has his own principles. His arrogance and self-importance are almost pathological. As long as it's not in his own will, nothing can change him, thus even when suffering under the curse of fate, he remains himself.
Never changes.
Rather than saying he eventually lost, it's more accurate to say he chose to give up. His pride and dignity would never allow him to build his victory on the suffering of an innocent boy.
Even though they are both gods, their styles are worlds apart.
The latter is respected.
The former is nauseating.
