Third Person POV
Land of Birds, 43.
...
...
After leaving the Land of Rain, they advanced directly to the Land of Birds. The weather was already much more open, without rain and closed skies, which was the main characteristic of the Land of Rain.
Surveillance had also decreased greatly, as there was not a very large military force in this country. Even so, they still avoided cities, camping in clearings or unoccupied caves.
Minato took the opportunity not only to teach them about infiltration, but also about survival. He did not want to use anything from the storage scrolls and also avoided cooking for them again, which left his students a little discouraged, since they had become addicted to the food Minato had prepared the last time.
Obito took charge of the food together with Rin, while Kakashi hunted. Obito sometimes helped his teammate on the hunts. Minato only supervised and gave them tips. Kakashi already had some experience outside the Land of Fire, but the other two did not. Minato forced them to have a guard mindset, making Obito place a shadow clone to watch the camp the entire time.
Meanwhile, Obito happily asked Minato questions about the countries.
Minato did not know much about the Land of Birds, but he knew that the main route of entry here was between the Land of Rain, the Land of Earth, and also the Land of Wind.
In any case, they entered the Land of Stone. Many ninjas there possessed some degree of skill with the Earth element, and the military strength in this country was concentrated on that, but nothing compared to the Land of Earth above them with Iwagakure.
There were even rumors that Iwa took talented ninjas who were born in the Land of Stone to train them in the village. But Oonoki did not carry out kidnappings; in fact, he paid a good amount to the Land of Stone, which also gained the protection of the larger country, taking the family of any very talented member to be trained and linked to the village of Iwa.
Minato personally considered the system beneficial, so he did not see it as something malicious or bad.
In any case, they spent only one day in the Land of Stone and advanced to the Land of Mountains. The capital, called Moon, was a place where Minato decided to stop to rest after days traveling since they left Konoha.
Minato took his students to buy supplies before continuing the journey, since they were close to the Land of Bears.
"Who would have thought we would be so far from the Land of Fire", Obito said excitedly, while he admired the local culture.
Kakashi said nothing, but Rin also nodded her head.
"Hey, Rin, let's go eat. That food looks strange, but tasty!", Obito suggested, while Rin followed him.
Minato stayed with Kakashi.
"Sensei, I want to train a little", he looked at Minato and asked.
Minato nodded.
"Alright, let's go to where we left our camp outside the city", Minato said before calling the others.
"I'm going to train a bit with Kakashi. You can stay here enjoying the city. Just come back near night. We will reach the Land of Bears before sunset the next day, so we will travel at night", Minato said.
Rin nodded before returning with Obito.
Soon after, Kakashi and Minato returned to the camp in the forest clearing.
Kakashi drew his katana. Minato also removed his. It was time to train kenjutsu seriously.
While they trained, Kakashi tried to apply the Chidori directly to the katana. He had been training this for more than a week, ever since Minato had shown it to him, but only a few sparks were beginning to appear.
"Let your chakra flow over the object. It's better for you to train with something smaller, like a kunai, as I told you before", Minato said.
Kakashi looked at the blade releasing only a few sparks. He seemed dissatisfied, but nodded.
Even so, they still exchanged blows, training fencing. The area was filled with a dance of sparks every time the metal touched each other, due to the high speed that both could launch attacks at one another.
Minato could be powerful, use Haki, and had even trained a little with Sakumo, but his swordsmanship was still not that refined. He ended up benefiting from Kakashi, who knew many movements of the Hatake clan's training style better than Minato.
Not that Minato wanted exactly the Hatake clan's swordsmanship, but he wanted to refine his own. He needed someone who knew very well how to perform movements, swing the sword, and apply strikes with precision. Firing powerful attacks that enemies would be incapable of defending against was one thing; now, controlling the sword to the point that it was refined, with perfect movements, was another.
That was something Minato still lacked. If he wanted to reach the level of those he wished to match, he needed to refine his swordsmanship. And he could not do that much with clones, after all they can even copy the movement, but it is the original user's muscle that has to be trained. Minato did not like using clones, so...
In any case, they trained for a while. After that, Minato gave a kunai to Kakashi so he could start imbuing chakra flow into it. Little by little, small sparks began to appear slightly.
Minato could see that there was a certain difficulty for Kakashi to shape the chakra, but that was still strange. He had already formed the Chidori. Although Chidori is a lightning without form, only crackling in all directions, there is not much control over it. Only the increase or decrease of the chakra placed into the technique increases its size.
Sasuke himself could do this perfectly, creating the Chidori blade that expanded the chakra as if it were a spear. Minato could also do this. Kakashi, in the future, would also be able to use Chidori itself to create a lightning hound that advanced at mid-range against the enemy.
But it seemed that the current Kakashi still did not have that much ability to control chakra into shapes. What did he not have that the adult version might have?, Minato thought.
Kakashi was a little frustrated, managing to produce only sparks, but unable to change the shape of the lightning to make it wrap around the kunai.
The adult version knew how to use the Rasengan. Minato thought that maybe this could be the solution. After all, the original Kakashi had learned the Rasengan even before the Chidori. It was through the concept of the Rasengan that Kakashi had created his original lightning jutsu.
He had only learned the Chidori earlier because Minato himself had already developed the jutsu and gave the complete scroll to Kakashi two years ago.
Although the Chidori also had concepts from the Rasengan — Minato himself had developed it from that — it did not focus as much on form, unlike the Rasengan, which was pure chakra trying to create a perfectly round rotating sphere.
"Kakashi, stop", Minato said immediately.
Kakashi looked confused, but still lowered the kunai.
"I want to teach this to you", Minato began.
He created a perfect Rasengan in his hand, spinning intensely.
"This jutsu was created by you, wasn't it? I also saw Kushina using it", Kakashi murmured.
Minato nodded.
"Yes. This is an original technique that I developed myself, back at the same time I created the Chidori", Minato said.
"This is a basic form, obviously, but I believe it is good for you to learn how to change chakra."
Minato spoke while picking up a sword with the other hand.
"I think this is the base point for you to begin developing chakra forms", Minato began to explain.
Meanwhile, the sword began to shine but without lightning, just a sword of chakra. In Minato's other hand, the Rasengan continued spinning. Both only had chakra, without element.
"As you can see, I am using lightning chakra. I went straight to shaping a layer around the sword." Minato saw that Kakashi remained silent, observing.
"But this is only the first step. There is also a stage that is even more difficult: using elemental chakra in a more refined way."
Minato began adding wind element chakra to the spinning Rasengan. Little by little, the technique began to create a propeller-like shape, emitting a sharp sound.
The sword also changed, from faint blue chakra it gained a stronger color until it began to turn lightning blue and start to crackle.
The Rasengan soon gained form and overlapped the lightning sword, while Minato had to lift it, with the entire space of the place gaining a strong gale.
"Now... something that your father already masters. Let me show you. Refining chakra into a control where you can launch it..."
Kakashi remained silent listening, but clearly seeing what was happening, and he could not help but widen his eyes. He was witnessing the emergence of a very remarkable S-rank jutsu, already recorded in the bingo book in Minato's information: the Rasenshuriken.
"The next step is to try to master the refinement and control of chakra so that you can launch it", Minato explained.
He looked at the propeller-shaped Rasengan above his head.
"This will certainly cause great destruction. Let's reduce it a little", Minato murmured.
He began to withdraw chakra from the Rasenshuriken. The technique started to shrink more and more, until it formed a small sphere of energy, sustained with only one finger.
There was still an irritating sound coming from it. Minato made a gesture and launched the small sphere forward.
The ball shot forward at high speed toward a tree. Upon impact, it shone intensely and, suddenly, an explosion appeared in the middle of the trunk, beginning to destroy all the wood from the inside. The upper part of the tree began to give way, while another smaller explosion appeared at the point of impact.
The sphere of energy grew until it reached approximately the size of three basketballs before disappearing completely.
Kakashi watched that in silence. It would be better if he had the Sharingan to analyze it more clearly. But Minato began explaining the concept.
He raised the sword still wrapped in lightning and made a movement. Immediately, an aerial lightning slash flew out, leaving the blade and advancing forward.
The attack cut through two or three trees before exploding.
"One bad thing for kenjutsu users is that you depend a lot on close-range battles. However, if you truly master these concepts and manage to shoot your chakra in whatever shape you want, you break that barrier and become a monster on the battlefield. That is why I would like you to return to training kenjutsu."
"You can be versatile at short, medium, and even long range", Minato said.
He began to channel elemental chakra into the sword again, but this time it was wind element chakra. A yellow layer began to appear around the blade.
Minato looked at a tree more than four hundred meters away, on top of a peak. He simply placed one foot forward, adjusted himself, and moved the sword as if he were cutting something in front of him. Immediately afterward, the chakra itself shot forward.
Kakashi saw the trajectory of the slash advancing toward that tree, cutting it while the chakra continued flying into the sky.
They only saw the tree being split apart.
"I understand. I would like to learn this jutsu, sensei", Kakashi said, finally breaking the silence after seeing so many incredible things with his sensei.
Minato smiled, satisfied.
"Well, let's begin. You're lucky that I have a bit of a stock of empty balloons. We'll start by filling them with water in a river below us...", Minato said with a smile.
Kakashi would be the second person he would teach the Rasengan to.
That was when Obito and Rin returned. They were full from eating and carried several packages, taking advantage of the city's commerce.
When they arrived at the camp, they found Kakashi with a small round balloon in his hand, moving it and showing that there was water inside, constantly spinning.
"A new training from sensei?", Obito asked, a little suspicious.
"It must be. I even feel a little bad. While we were having fun in the city, Kakashi was training with sensei", Rin murmured, a little regretful.
"Ah, come on, Rin. It's not that bad. It's good to have some fun once in a while. We can't just stay in training all the time", Obito tried to ease the situation.
"So it's fine for you to fall behind, Obito?", Minato's voice appeared calmly near them, without them noticing.
"Sensei! No... of course not", Obito murmured quickly.
"Well, Kakashi is determined to become stronger. Just be careful so he doesn't leave you too far behind", Minato said calmly.
"Wait, but you said we could enjoy the day!", Obito protested.
"And you could, just like Kakashi. But he decided to train", Minato replied, crossing his arms.
The boy was left without arguments.
"I'm not saying that you can't have fun sometimes. When I give you time off, you can enjoy it without any guilt. But don't forget that I won't be here forever. It's good to use your time to train while I can pass on what I know to you", Minato said.
Even so, he always wanted his students to have a more competitive mindset and the desire to become stronger.
After all, the world does not belong only to geniuses, but to those who dedicate themselves and do not give up.
Might Duy and Guy were good examples. Even someone like Kakashi, who is a genius, did not waste his time with too much play. Kakashi inherited that from his father and, despite not having the same innate talent, it could make him reach a level that his original self did not reach.
Now, whether he would be stronger than his own father or not depended only on him. Even if he did not have as much talent as Sakumo, Minato could increase his potential.
