They badged through the main entrance, past the late-night visitors and the exhausted nurses, heading toward the secure wing on the third floor where the witness was being held. The elevator ride was silent, the fluorescent lights buzzing overhead.
On the third floor, a single police officer sat outside a private room, thumbing through a magazine. He straightened when he saw the SACU badges.
"Investigators. You're here about the witness?"
"That's right." Ezzy pocketed her badge. "Has he said anything else?"
"Nothing coherent. Keeps talking about shadows and a man with two faces. Honestly, I think the guy's lost it." The officer shrugged. "But he's all yours. Just don't expect much."
