Chapter 19 - Chapter 18: The Gathering of the Iron Pillars

The internal stabilization of Nagoya Castle had created a structural vacuum across Owari Province.

With the Hayashi faction broken and the Suemori rebellion dismantled, the smaller, fragmented castles of northern and western Owari were left drifting like rudderless ships in a stormy sea.

Nobunaga held the heart, but the limbs of the province were still technically independent, watching the skies for the next move.

Inside the high-security military bureau that Subaru Ryu had established in the middle keep, a map of Owari was laid out across a massive cedar table.

The map was no longer a simple ink sketch on parchment; Subaru had used charcoal grids, colored stone markers, and detailed logistical vectors to turn the board into a transparent, numbers-driven strategic display.

His system interface flickered dynamically over the table, calculating the political alignment of the remaining territorial fragments:

[GRAND CAMPAIGN: THE UNIFICATION OF OWARI]

[CURRENT CLAN INTEGRATION: CENTRAL OWARI — 100% UNDER CONTROL]

[NORTHERN OWARI (KIYOSU REMNANTS): UNALIGNED / DEFENSIVE]

[SOUTHERN/WESTERN BORDER OUTPOSTS: 40% REVENUE COMPLIANCE]

[URGENCY LEVEL: HIGH (Before Imagawa recovers or Saito's autumn meeting commences)]

Subaru stood at the head of the table, his newly elevated 91 INT and 84 POL filtering through the troop counts of their neighboring districts.

The heavy sliding doors of the bureau opened, and three men stepped into the room.

They did not enter with the chaotic bravado of common warriors.

They moved with a disciplined, deliberate weight that instantly shifted the room's atmosphere.

Subaru looked up, and his system interface flared to life, projecting three distinct, high-tier status windows above the newcomers:

[TACTICAL RECONNAISSANCE: THE NEW VANGUARD]

1. NIWA NAGAHIDE (Age: 17)

LEAD: 88 | ATK: 74 | DEF: 85 | INT: 87 | POL: 91

Trait: [The Great Builder] — Boosts administrative recovery by 30%.

2. SASSA NAGAMASA (Age: 16)

LEAD: 76 | ATK: 80 | DEF: 72 | INT: 68 | POL: 50

Trait: [Black Feather] — Increases vanguard shock morale by 25%.

3. TAKIGAWA KAZUMASU (Age: 27)

LEAD: 85 | ATK: 88 | DEF: 80 | INT: 90 | POL: 72

Trait: [The Master Marksman] — Matchlock deployment efficiency +35%.

The core architecture of the Oda clan's future greatness, Subaru thought, his heart quickening as he evaluated their stats.

Niwa Nagahide, the brilliant general who would earn the nickname Korezumi (The Pillar) for his peerless balance of military and civil affairs.

Sassa Nagamasa (often known as Sassa Narimasa), the hot-blooded vanguard commander of the black-feathered Horoshū cavalry.

And Takigawa Kazumasu, the deadly shinobi-samurai who single-handedly mastered the early tactical applications of firearms and espionage.

"Lord Subaru," Niwa Nagahide spoke first, bowing with an exquisite, measured grace that reflected his high Politics stat.

"The Young Master commanded us to report to you.

He says you are carving the path to unify the borders, and that our spears belong to your ledger."

"We've spent months guarding the western outposts while you were performing miracles at Inō and Anjō," Sassa Nagamasa grunted, crossing his arms, though his eyes were locked onto Subaru's grid-map with intense curiosity.

"They say you turned empty sake barrels into cannons.

I want to see what kind of mind invents such madness."

Takigawa Kazumasu remained silent, leaning against a wooden pillar near the shadow of the door.

His sharp, calculating gaze (INT: 90) wasn't looking at the map; it was evaluating Subaru's posture, his hands, and the absolute authority he commanded within the bureau.

"Welcome, gentlemen," Subaru said, offering a respectful bow that matched Nagahide's courtly standards.

"The Young Master is correct.

The victory at Inō was merely a defensive shield.

Now, we must forge the sword that will bring all eight districts of Owari under a single law.

If we do not unify the province before the autumn leaves fall, our borders will remain porous to the outside tigers."

Subaru tapped a dark charcoal circle on the northern sector of the map.

"Our primary obstacle is the Kiyosu Oda faction.

They control the northern trade routes and are currently fortifying their walls, expecting us to launch a traditional, bloody siege."

"A traditional siege against Kiyosu Castle would be a disaster for our current treasury,"

Niwa Nagahide observed, stepping up to the table, his fingers tracing the topography lines Subaru had drawn.

"The walls are thick, and if we draw out a long campaign, the farmers will miss the spring planting season.

Our food supplies would plummet by winter."

"Then we do not lay siege to the walls," Subaru declared, his 91 INT clicking the tactical pieces together.

"We lay siege to their relevance."

Takigawa Kazumasu tilted his head, his interest finally piqued.

"Explain, Lord Strategist."

Subaru picked up three blue stone markers, placing them along the outer perimeters of Kiyosu's territory.

"Thanks to the Rakuichi Rakuaza decree we implemented in Nagoya, eighty percent of the merchants traveling from Kyoto are already bypassing Kiyosu's heavily taxed roads.

They want the free trade of Nagoya.

Kazumasu, I want your covert network to spread rumors throughout the northern districts that any merchant who enters Kiyosu Castle will be permanently banned from trading within Nagoya's jurisdiction."

Kazumasu's lips curved into a sharp, dangerous smile.

"Economic strangulation.

You are going to starve their markets before we even light a single matchlock match."

"Exactly," Subaru replied.

"But we must also address their military capability.

Nagamasa, your Horoshū cavalry will execute rapid, non-lethal patrol maneuvers along the Kiyosu border.

You are not to attack their villages.

Instead, you will offer protection to their independent farmers against bandits, free of charge."

Sassa Nagamasa blinked, his hot-blooded temperament temporarily confused.

"Protection?

To the enemy's peasants?

Why should we bleed for people who pay taxes to Kiyosu?"

"Because a peasant's loyalty belongs to the lord who fills his belly and keeps his roof from burning,"

Nagahide interjected, his 91 POL instantly grasping Subaru's brilliant psychological trap.

He looked at Subaru with a sudden flash of profound admiration.

"By protecting their crops and isolating their trade, we make the Kiyosu leadership look utterly useless to their own people.

The minor retainers inside Kiyosu Castle will realize that surrendering to Lord Nobunaga is the only path to survival."

"And if they refuse to bend?"

Kazumasu asked, his hand drifting toward the hilt of his short sword.

"The Kiyosu commanders are stubborn traditionalists.

They may launch a desperate, preemptive strike against our northern vipers to break the chokehold."

"Let them try," Subaru said, his voice dropping into a cold, military register as he looked at Kazumasu.

"If they march out of their gates, they enter open ground.

Kazumasu, you will deploy three hundred of our trained matchlock musketeers along the narrow ravines of Kaizu.

We will utilize the rolling volley method we perfected at Inō.

We will let them break their own teeth against our lead before they even see our main spears."

[STRATEGIC PLAN LOCK: THE OWARI CHOKE_HOLD]

ECONOMIC BLOCKADE: Takigawa Kazumasu (90% Feasibility)

PSYCHOLOGICAL PACIFICATION: Sassa Nagamasa (85% Feasibility)

DEFENSIVE TRAP (KAIZU SECTOR): Niwa Nagahide (95% Feasibility)

[ESTIMATED TIMELINE TO ABSOLUTE UNIFICATION: 45 DAYS]

The three young commanders stared at the map.

The sheer logic, the bloodless efficiency, and the modern scale of Subaru's strategy left no room for doubt.

It wasn't just a plan to win a battle; it was a blueprint to absorb a territory without destroying its economic value.

Sassa Nagamasa let out a low whistle, slamming his fist against his palm.

"By the gods... you really are a monster, aren't you, Ryu?

You're defeating them with gold and rumors before I even get to thrust my spear."

"The ultimate victory is to break the enemy's resistance without fighting, Commander Sassa,"

Subaru said, quoting an ancient text with a subtle smile.

Niwa Nagahide stepped back from the table, dropped to his knees, and placed his hands flat against the wooden floorboards, bowing deeply to Subaru.

"Lord Subaru. The Oda clan has possessed the fire of Lord Nobunaga for years, but today, I see that we have finally been granted the mind to shape that fire.

I, Niwa Nagahide, swear my absolute cooperation to your bureau."

Takigawa Kazumasu stepped out of the shadows, kneeling beside Nagahide, his sharp eyes filled with an unshakeable, professional respect.

"My shadow network belongs to your ledger, Lord Strategist.

The rumors will reach Kiyosu by dawn."

Even the stubborn Sassa Nagamasa dropped to one knee, a fierce, eager grin on his youthful face.

"Let's lock the northern gate. My horses are ready to ride."

As the three pillars of the new era bowed before him, Subaru stood tall, his system interface casting a brilliant, warm blue glow over the room.

The piece was set, the executioners of Nobunaga's will were aligned, and the final puzzle of Owari Province was about to fall into place with the terrifying, flawless precision of a master stroke.
