Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: The City of Dreams and the Seastone Trap

The contrast was so sharp it felt like a hallucination.

After days of marching through a dead, scorching wasteland where every drop of moisture was violently squeezed from their bodies, the Straw Hat Pirates crested a final, towering dune and looked down in absolute disbelief.

Before them lay Rainbase. The City of Dreams.

Unlike the buried, tragic ruins of Yuba or the dusty streets of Nanohana, Rainbase was an emerald jewel resting on a sapphire mirror. A massive, crystal-clear lake surrounded the city, reflecting the bright blue sky. Lush, vibrant green palm trees lined the paved streets, and grand, opulent buildings made of polished stone and colorful glass rose proudly into the air.

At the very center of the city, sitting in the middle of the lake, was a colossal structure shaped like a massive pyramid, topped with a giant golden statue of a banana gator. This was Rain Dinners, the largest casino in Alabasta. And the headquarters of the Warlord of the Sea, Sir Crocodile.

"Water..." Usopp wept, falling to his knees and letting sand spill through his fingers. "It's a whole lake of water! We're saved!"

"It's incredible," Nami breathed, her eyes wide as she looked at the thriving city. "While the rest of the country is literally dying of thirst and tearing itself apart for a single drop of rain, this place has a massive lake just sitting here."

Vivi's fists clenched tightly at her sides. Her knuckles turned stark white. "Crocodile controls this city," she said, her voice shaking with a mixture of profound grief and boiling anger. "He built his paradise while my people starved. He hoards the water and the wealth, parading around as a hero."

"Then let's go beat him up and take it back!" Luffy shouted cheerfully, completely oblivious to the heavy political tension. He strapped his straw hat tight under his chin. "But first! I need water! And meat! I'm starving to death!"

"Me too!" Chopper agreed, his tongue hanging out of his furry mouth.

"Right," Zoro smirked, resting his hands on his swords. "Let's find this Warlord."

As the group began their descent toward the city gates, Kai noticed someone was missing. He glanced around, checking the faces of his crewmates.

"Hey, where did Sanji go?" Kai asked, adjusting his sandy-tan desert cloak.

Zoro blinked, looking over his shoulder. The curly-browed cook was nowhere to be found. "That idiot? Who knows. He probably wandered off to find some girls to swoon over. Leave him. We have bigger fish to fry."

Kai frowned slightly, remembering the uncharacteristically serious look on Sanji's face earlier that day. He's up to something, Kai thought to himself. But Zoro's right. Right now, Crocodile is the priority.

The streets of Rainbase were bustling with wealthy merchants, tourists, and off-duty bounty hunters. The air smelled of expensive perfumes and roasted meats, a stark contrast to the dust and sweat the pirates were accustomed to.

"Okay, listen up," Nami hissed, pulling Luffy, Zoro, and Usopp into a narrow alleyway. "This is Crocodile's stronghold. There are probably Millions and Billions everywhere. We need to be stealthy. We gather information, find out where he is inside that casino, and strike when he isn't expecting it. Do you understand?"

"Got it!" Luffy nodded seriously. "Stealth!"

Five minutes later, stealth was violently thrown out the window.

The heat and exhaustion had finally overpowered Luffy and Usopp's limited brain cells. Bursting through the swinging doors of a crowded, high-end desert cantina, the two idiots sprinted straight for the bar, completely ignoring the stunned patrons.

"WATER! WATER! WATER!" Luffy chanted, grabbing a massive pitcher of ice water from the counter and downing it in a single, monstrous gulp.

"Ahhh! I'm alive!" Usopp cheered, doing the same.

Zoro walked in behind them, sighing heavily. "So much for a low profile."

"Hey! You can't just drink that without paying!" the bartender yelled.

Luffy wiped his mouth, his belly suddenly distended like a massive water balloon. "Ah, that hit the spot. Now, excuse me, mister! Do you know where the Sand Crocodile is?"

The entire cantina went dead silent. The piano player stopped mid-keystroke. The patrons slowly turned their heads, staring at the teenage boy with absolute horror. Asking to pick a fight with the national hero in his own city was practically a death sentence.

But the most horrified person in the room wasn't a civilian.

Sitting in a booth in the corner, eating a massive plate of smoked desert lizard, was a towering man in a thick, white jacket. Two lit cigars were clamped tightly in his jaw.

Captain Smoker of the Marines froze. He slowly turned his head, his eyes locking onto the boy in the straw hat.

Luffy blinked. The water balloon of his stomach sloshed. He stared at the Marine. The Marine stared at him.

Pfffft! Luffy violently spat a mouthful of water directly into Smoker's face out of sheer shock.

"SMOKEY?!" Luffy shrieked.

Smoker's face turned completely red with absolute, murderous rage. The water dripped from his chin, extinguishing one of his precious cigars. Thick, aggressive gray smoke instantly began to billow from his shoulders and arms, filling the cantina with the smell of burning tobacco.

"STRAW HAT!" Smoker roared, his voice shaking the glass windows.

"RUN!" Usopp screamed at the top of his lungs.

Complete chaos erupted. Luffy, Zoro, and Usopp bolted out of the cantina like greased lightning, shattering the swinging doors right off their hinges.

"Don't let them escape!" Smoker barked, drawing his massive Sea Prism Stone jutte. "Tashigi! Get the men! We're taking them down right here, right now!"

"Yes, Captain!" Tashigi yelled, drawing her sword and leading a massive squad of Marines who had been stationed outside.

The peaceful city of Rainbase instantly turned into a warzone. The Straw Hats sprinted frantically down the paved streets, knocking over fruit carts and dodging bewildered tourists. Behind them, a literal army of Marines gave chase, led by a billowing cloud of angry, grey smoke.

Outside a nearby clothing store, Vivi, Nami, Chopper, and Kai watched the stampede blow past them in a cloud of dust.

"I leave them alone for five minutes!" Nami screamed, pulling at her orange hair in sheer frustration. "Five minutes!"

"Well, the stealth plan is officially a bust," Kai said, his hands in his pockets. He couldn't help but crack a lopsided smile.

"This is not funny, Kai!" Bot's robotic voice buzzed frantically from the watch. "There are exactly one hundred and forty-two heavily armed Marines chasing our captain! The statistical probability of us getting arrested just spiked by a thousand percent!"

"Relax, Bot. It's a distraction," Kai said, pulling his desert scarf up over his mouth. He looked toward the center of the lake, his eyes locking onto the massive, pyramid-shaped casino. "While Smoker is busy chasing those three idiots, Crocodile's attention is going to be drawn to the streets. That's our chance to slip into Rain Dinners."

Vivi nodded, her expression hardening. "Kai is right. We need to confront him. I have to know why he did this to my country."

Inside the opulent, gold-trimmed halls of Rain Dinners, Luffy, Zoro, and Usopp had completely lost their sense of direction. They had blasted past the casino security, vaulting over roulette tables and dodging angry guards, desperately trying to lose the Marines.

"Where is the Crocodile guy?!" Luffy yelled, his rubber legs spinning like wheels.

"I don't know! Just keep running!" Zoro yelled back.

"Stop right there, pirates!" Smoker bellowed, flying through the air behind them on a jet of smoke.

Spotting a grand, heavily gilded set of double doors marked "VIP - NO ENTRY," Luffy didn't hesitate. "In here!"

He smashed through the doors, Zoro and Usopp piling in right behind him. Smoker, fueled by pure rage, blasted through the splintered wood a second later, his jutte raised to strike.

They found themselves in a massive, dimly lit, luxurious lounge. Plush velvet sofas lined the walls, and a large mahogany desk sat at the far end. But the room was completely empty.

"Dead end," Zoro growled, drawing his swords. "Get ready to fight the smoke guy."

Luffy grinned, cracking his knuckles. "Bring it on, Smokey!"

Smoker landed heavily on the carpet, his eyes narrowed. "You've nowhere left to run, Straw Hat."

Suddenly, a smooth, deep voice echoed from a hidden speaker in the ceiling.

"Kuhahaha... Welcome to Rain Dinners, Straw Hat Luffy. And you too, Captain Smoker. I didn't expect the Marines to grace my humble establishment."

The floor beneath their feet suddenly gave way.

There was no mechanical warning, no click of a button. The luxurious carpet simply vanished as a massive trapdoor swung open.

"Whoa!" Luffy yelled, his arms flailing wildly.

"What the—?!" Zoro and Usopp shouted.

Even Smoker was caught entirely off guard. The trapdoor was too wide, and the drop was too sudden. The four of them plummeted into the darkness, crashing heavily onto a hard, cold stone floor several stories below the VIP room.

Luffy groaned, rubbing his head. He sat up, squinting in the dim, green-tinted light. "Ouch... what was that?"

He looked around. They were trapped inside a massive, incredibly thick iron cage. The bars were as thick as tree trunks, forged from a dark, strange metal.

Zoro immediately drew his swords. "Stand back."

He unleashed a powerful, high-speed slash directly at the iron bars. CLANG! The sound was deafening, but the sword bounced off, leaving not even a single scratch on the dark metal. Zoro's eyes widened in shock. "What the hell? My swords can cut steel. What is this?"

Luffy reached out, grabbing the thick bars with his hands. "Let me try! I'll bend them—"

The moment Luffy's skin touched the dark metal, his eyes rolled back in his head. All the strength instantly vanished from his body. His rubber limbs turned to jelly, and he collapsed onto the stone floor, gasping weakly.

"Luffy!" Usopp screamed. "What's wrong?!"

Smoker slowly stood up from the corner of the cage, brushing the dust off his white coat. He didn't even try to touch the bars. His face was grim.

"It's no use," Smoker growled, pulling out a fresh cigar. "Don't bother, Roronoa. You can't cut it, and Straw Hat can't bend it. Those bars are made of Sea Prism Stone."

"Sea Prism Stone?" Zoro frowned.

"It's a rare mineral that emits the exact same energy as the sea," Smoker explained, his voice rough. "It completely nullifies Devil Fruit powers and drains the user's stamina. To a Devil Fruit user, this cage is the bottom of the ocean. We are completely trapped."

A few minutes later, the grand double doors of the VIP room were pushed open again.

Vivi walked in slowly, her heart pounding against her ribs. Kai walked closely beside her, his eyes scanning the luxurious, empty room. Nami and Chopper stayed a few steps back, guarding the door.

"Luffy? Zoro?" Nami called out nervously. "Where are they?"

Kai looked down at the massive, gaping hole in the center of the plush carpet. He walked over to the edge, peering down into the gloomy depths. Through the darkness, he could barely make out the shape of the massive cage, and the figures of his crewmates inside it.

"Bot," Kai whispered. "Run a scan on that metal."

"Scanning..." Bot buzzed softly. "Whoa. Kai, the density of that cage is off the charts. It's giving off an energy signature similar to seawater. I advise against touching it."

"Well, well. It seems the rest of the rats have finally found their way into the maze."

The deep, arrogant voice made Vivi freeze. The blood ran completely cold in her veins.

From the shadows behind the large mahogany desk, a chair slowly turned around.

Sitting there, draped in a massive, expensive fur coat, was Sir Crocodile. His slicked-back hair, the golden hook replacing his left hand, and the jagged scar across his face gave him the aura of a ruthless, untouchable mafia boss. Standing elegantly beside him was Nico Robin, holding a clipboard with a serene, unbothered smile.

"Crocodile..." Vivi whispered, her voice trembling with absolute hatred.

"Princess Vivi," Crocodile smiled, blowing a cloud of cigar smoke into the air. "I must say, I'm impressed you made it this far. You've been quite the thorn in my side. Destroying my weapon shipments at the river... a clever little move. But ultimately, meaningless."

"Why?!" Vivi screamed, taking a step forward. "Why are you doing this?! Alabasta has always welcomed you! The people call you a hero! Why do you want to destroy my home?!"

"Why?" Crocodile chuckled, leaning forward. His golden hook glinted in the dim light. "Because, little Princess, power is the only thing that matters in this world. Your father was weak. He cared too much about his people. I simply showed them the truth—that peace is an illusion."

Crocodile stood up, walking slowly around the desk. He looked down into the hole, staring at the trapped Straw Hats below.

"I have to admit, your little pirate friends are quite annoying," Crocodile sneered. "But now they belong to me. That cage is made of Sea Prism Stone. There is absolutely no escape."

"Let them go!" Vivi yelled.

"I don't think so," Crocodile said coldly. He pulled a golden pocket watch from his coat, checking the time. "In fact, I'm glad you're here, Princess. You get to witness the grand finale of Operation Utopia."

Vivi's breath hitched. "What have you done?"

Crocodile smiled wickedly. "By now, my agent, Mr. 2 Bon Clay, has already arrived in the capital city of Alubarna. He has used his Clone-Clone Fruit to perfectly mimic the face, voice, and authority of your beloved father, King Cobra."

The room spun. Vivi felt like she had been physically punched in the stomach.

"Right now," Crocodile continued, his voice dripping with sadistic pleasure, "the 'King' is publicly confessing to stealing the rain with Dance Powder. He is giving the Royal Army the absolute order to march on Katorea and slaughter the Rebel Army. The weapons you destroyed don't matter anymore. The hatred has reached its boiling point. The war has officially begun."

"No..." Vivi fell to her knees, tears spilling freely down her cheeks. "Koza... Father... Please, no..."

"Within twenty-four hours, the armies will wipe each other out. Alabasta will fall, and I will be begged by the survivors to take the throne," Crocodile laughed, the cruel sound echoing off the opulent walls. "And you, Princess, get to sit here and watch your country burn."

Kai stood perfectly still. His hands were stuffed deep into his pockets. He looked at Vivi crying on the floor. He looked at Crocodile's smug, arrogant face.

Bzzzt.

The Power Watch on his wrist vibrated violently. It wasn't Bot speaking. It was the core chamber.

The steady orange light of the interface suddenly began to flicker wildly, flashing between a deep, unstable crimson red and a brilliant, crackling yellow. The sheer, overwhelming pressure of Crocodile's murderous intent, combined with Kai's own rising anger, was forcing the dormant elements to react.

"Kai! The cores!" Bot buzzed frantically, his voice filled with robotic panic. "The new elements are totally destabilizing! The pressure is too high! You need to calm down!"

"I'm perfectly calm, Bot," Kai said. His voice was terrifyingly quiet.

He slowly pulled his hands out of his pockets. He didn't yell. He didn't scream. He just stepped forward, placing himself squarely between Princess Vivi and the Warlord of the Sea.

Crocodile narrowed his eyes, blowing out a puff of smoke. He looked at the teenager in the sandy-tan cloak with a mix of amusement and absolute disdain. "And who are you supposed to be? Another one of her pathetic, idealistic bodyguards?"

"I'm the guy who's going to break that cage," Kai said smoothly. He raised his left arm, aiming the glowing face of the Power Watch directly at Crocodile.

He hadn't unlocked the new elements yet. He only had Level One Earth, Water, and Leaf. Against a Logia-type Warlord who could turn into sand, he was incredibly outmatched. But looking at the tears on Vivi's face, Kai knew the time for hiding in the background was over.

"You think you can fight me, boy?" Crocodile sneered, raising his golden hook. The ambient moisture in the air around him instantly vanished, the luxury carpet beneath his feet turning into a swirling vortex of deadly, dehydrated sand. "You'll be a dried-up corpse in three seconds."

Kai smirked, his eyes flashing with a dangerous, unyielding light.

"We'll see about that. Elemental Power..."

Before Kai could finish the command, the entire casino suddenly shuddered violently. A massive, deafening explosion rocked the building from the outside, shattering the expensive glass windows of the VIP room and sending a shockwave of dust and debris flying through the air.

Crocodile flinched, his sand vortex dropping for a fraction of a second. "What the hell was that?!"

From the smoke and shattered glass of the blown-out window, a single voice echoed, smooth and casually arrogant.

"Pardon the intrusion, Mr. Crocodile. But it seems you've caught some of my friends in your little trap."

Kai and Vivi turned their heads in shock.

Standing on the balcony, lighting a fresh cigarette amidst the falling glass and chaos, was a man in a sharp suit.

"Sanji!" Vivi gasped.

The curly-browed cook exhaled a long cloud of smoke, a dangerous, confident smirk playing on his lips.

"The name is Mr. Prince," Sanji said smoothly. "And I'm here to crash the party."
