The Conomi Islands loomed on the horizon, a cluster of lush green landmasses surrounded by sparkling blue water. But despite the idyllic scenery, a heavy, oppressive shadow hung over the region. For eight long years, this archipelago had been the personal playground of the Arlong Pirates.
On the deck of the Flying Raijin, Nami stood at the bow, the sea breeze whipping through her orange hair. Her hands gripped the polished wooden railing tightly. She wasn't trembling out of fear anymore; she was trembling with absolute, unbridled anticipation.
"We're entering their territorial waters," Nami announced, her voice steady and clear. "Arlong Park is situated on the coast of Cocoyasi Village, just around this next cape."
"Good," Luffy said, standing right beside her. He cracked his knuckles, a sharp, popping sound that echoed across the quiet deck. "I've been looking forward to this."
Suddenly, the ocean surface a few hundred yards off the port bow began to violently churn and bubble. A massive shadow rose from the depths, blocking out the sun. It was a gargantuan sea monster—a creature with the upper body of a horned cow and the lower body of a massive fish.
It was Momoo, a beast brought from the Grand Line by the Arlong Pirates to terrorize the local populace.
"What the hell is that ugly thing?!" Sanji shouted, leaning over the railing with a lit cigarette dangling from his lips. "Is it beef or is it fish? Can I cook it?"
"It's a Sea Cow," Zoro observed calmly, resting a hand on the Wado Ichimonji. "Looks like Arlong's guard dog."
Momoo let out a deafening, echoing moo that sounded more like a roar, baring rows of jagged, terrifying teeth. The beast locked its massive, saucer-like eyes on the futuristic galleon, preparing to ram the vessel and sink it to the bottom of the sea.
Before Sanji could leap over the railing to kick the beast, or Zoro could draw his blades, Luffy simply took a step forward.
Luffy didn't strike a fighting stance. He merely tilted his straw hat up and locked his dark eyes with the massive Sea Cow. A microscopic fraction of his Conqueror's Haki leaked into the air—a sharp, invisible needle of pure, suffocating intimidation directed entirely at the beast.
"Get lost," Luffy commanded, his voice barely above a whisper, yet carrying the absolute authority of an apex predator.
Momoo froze entirely. The massive beast's eyes bulged out of its skull in sheer, unadulterated terror. The primal instincts ingrained in its DNA screamed that the tiny human standing on the white deck was a natural disaster capable of erasing its existence with a single thought.
Tears the size of cannonballs erupted from Momoo's eyes. The Sea Cow let out a pathetic, high-pitched whimper, violently thrashing its tail to turn around. Within seconds, the beast was swimming away at breakneck speeds, disappearing beneath the waves and leaving a trail of white foam in its desperate retreat.
Usopp, who had hidden behind the mast with his slingshot drawn, let out a massive sigh of relief. "W-Well! It's a good thing that monster ran away! If it hadn't, the great Captain Usopp would have had to unleash his deadly exploding stars!"
"Sure you would have, long-nose," Zoro smirked.
The Flying Raijin rounded the cape, and the coastline of Cocoyasi Village finally came into view. The moment the massive, futuristic galleon dropped anchor near the docks, the local villagers panicked. Decades of pirate attacks and Arlong's brutal subjugation had left them deeply traumatized. Seeing a ship that dwarfed even Marine battleships flying a Jolly Roger sent them running for cover.
As the boarding ramp lowered with a heavy hiss, Nami was the first to sprint down to the wooden docks.
"Everyone! It's okay! It's me!" Nami shouted, waving her arms frantically.
From behind the corner of a nearby brick building, a heavily scarred man with a pinwheel stuck to his hat cautiously stepped out. Beside him was a young woman with blue hair and dark skin, covered in tattoos.
"Nami?!" Genzo gasped, his eyes wide in absolute disbelief.
"You came back?" Nojiko breathed, rushing forward. "Nami, are you insane?! What are you doing here?! And what is that massive pirate ship?!"
Nami threw her arms around her adoptive sister, tears of pure joy pricking the corners of her eyes. "Nojiko! Genzo! You don't have to worry anymore! I brought help!"
Genzo looked past Nami, his eyes landing on the four men walking down the ramp. A teenager in a straw hat, a grim-looking swordsman with three blades, a blonde man in a sharp black suit, and a long-nosed boy armed with a slingshot.
"Help?" Genzo repeated, highly skeptical. "Nami, Arlong is a monster. He has a crew of fifty Fishmen. Normal humans cannot fight them! You've just brought these boys to their deaths!"
Luffy stopped at the bottom of the ramp, adjusting his straw hat. He looked at Genzo, recognizing the deep, protective love the man had for his navigator.
"We aren't normal humans, old man," Luffy said, his voice calm but vibrating with absolute confidence. He turned to Nami. "Which way is Arlong Park?"
Nami pointed down the coastline toward a massive, garish building that looked like a twisted amusement park. "That way. Just down the coast."
"Wait!" Nojiko grabbed Nami's arm. "You can't be serious! You guys can't just march up to the front gates! They'll slaughter you!"
"Don't worry, Nojiko-san!" Sanji swooned, instantly spinning into his lovestruck dance. "I would never let a single drop of harm come to Nami-swan, or her equally beautiful sister! We will crush those oversized sushi rolls in an instant!"
Zoro rolled his eyes, drawing the Wado Ichimonji. "Let's just get this over with. I need to test my Armament control again."
Without another word, Luffy began marching down the dirt road toward Arlong Park. His crew fell in line right behind him. Genzo, Nojiko, and a few of the braver villagers followed at a safe distance, completely bewildered by the sheer lack of fear radiating from the Straw Hat Pirates.
A few minutes later, the towering metal gates of Arlong Park stood before them.
Luffy didn't bother knocking. He didn't bother stretching his leg for a dramatic kick. He simply coated his fist in a thin layer of Armament Haki and punched the solid iron doors.
BOOM!
The massive gates were ripped from their hinges, flying backward through the air and crashing violently into the courtyard plaza.
Inside, the Arlong Pirates were lounging around a large, outdoor swimming pool. Dozens of heavily muscled Fishmen froze, their drinks halfway to their mouths, staring in shock at the destroyed gates. Sitting at the far end of the courtyard on a stone throne was Arlong himself—a massive Sawshark Fishman with a jagged, terrifying nose and cold, merciless eyes. Flanking him were his top officers: Kuroobi, Chew, and the six-armed octopus Fishman, Hatchan.
"What the hell is the meaning of this?!" Arlong roared, standing up from his throne. "Who dares to break down the gates of Arlong Park?!"
Luffy stepped through the dust and debris, his eyes locked dead onto the Sawshark Fishman. "Which one of you is Arlong?"
"I am Arlong!" the Fishman spat, flexing his massive muscles. "And you are a dead human! Did you really think you could just waltz in here and—"
Luffy didn't let him finish.
"You're the bastard who made my navigator cry," Luffy said, his voice dropping into a chilling, demonic octave.
Luffy didn't move a single muscle. He didn't throw a punch. He simply glared at the courtyard.
KRACK-A-DOOM!
A shockwave of pure, unadulterated Conqueror's Haki erupted from Luffy's body like a detonating bomb. The very air turned red-black, rippling with immense spiritual pressure. The stone pavement beneath Luffy's feet shattered into a spiderweb of deep cracks.
The invisible wave of supreme willpower slammed into the Arlong Pirates.
"W-What is this pressure?!" Kuroobi gasped, his eyes rolling into the back of his head before he collapsed face-first onto the concrete.
"I can't... breathe..." Chew choked out, dropping his water-pistol before falling backward into the pool.
Hatchan's six arms went entirely limp, and the octopus Fishman slumped to the ground, foaming at the mouth.
Across the entire courtyard, all fifty members of the Arlong Pirate crew—every single heavily muscled, genetically superior Fishman—collapsed in perfect, simultaneous unison. Their minds were utterly shattered by the sheer, crushing weight of the King's Haki.
When the red-black aura finally faded, absolute, dead silence reigned in Arlong Park.
Outside the gates, Genzo and Nojiko dropped to their knees in sheer terror, unable to comprehend what they had just witnessed. A teenage boy had just knocked out an entire army of monsters without even lifting a finger.
Only Arlong remained standing. But he wasn't standing tall.
The Sawshark Fishman was trembling violently. His knees knocked together, and cold sweat poured down his scaly face. He looked at his unconscious crew, and then back to the boy in the straw hat. The primal, predatory instincts that told Arlong he was the superior race were suddenly screaming at him that he was nothing but an insect in the presence of a god.
"W-What did you do?!" Arlong shrieked, his arrogant facade completely shattered by pure terror. "What kind of trick is this, you filthy human?!"
"It's no trick," Luffy said calmly, taking a slow, deliberate step forward. "It's just the difference between us."
Driven mad by fear and the destruction of his worldview, Arlong snapped. He let out a feral, bloodcurdling roar, launching himself forward. "I AM THE SUPERIOR RACE! SHARK ON DARTS!"
Arlong shot through the air like a torpedo, his jagged, unbreakable nose aimed directly at Luffy's heart. It was a move that could pierce solid steel.
Luffy didn't dodge. He simply raised his right hand.
CLANG!
Luffy caught Arlong's jagged nose in the palm of his bare hand. A thick, metallic coating of black Armament Haki protected Luffy's skin. The sheer kinetic force of Arlong's attack generated a shockwave that blew the water out of the nearby pool, but Luffy's arm didn't budge a single millimeter.
Arlong's eyes bulged in absolute horror. He pushed with all of his monstrous strength, but it was like trying to move a mountain.
"Superior race?" Luffy murmured, his eyes completely devoid of mercy.
With a casual flick of his wrist, Luffy twisted his hand.
SNAP.
Arlong's unbreakable, jagged nose snapped cleanly in half. The Fishman shrieked in excruciating agony, blood spraying across the concrete.
Before Arlong could pull away, Luffy stepped forward, his Armament Haki spreading from his hand up to his forearm. He reached out, his pitch-black, steel-like fingers wrapping entirely around Arlong's face, gripping the Fishman's skull.
Luffy lifted the massive, ten-foot-tall Fishman completely off the ground with one hand.
"This is for stealing eight years of her life," Luffy stated coldly.
Luffy squeezed.
CRUNCH.
The sickening sound of thick bone shattering echoed through the quiet courtyard. Arlong's body instantly went limp, his arms dropping to his sides. Luffy let go, allowing the lifeless body of the tyrant of the East Blue to drop unceremoniously to the shattered pavement.
It was over. It hadn't even been a fight. It was an execution.
Zoro sheathed the Wado Ichimonji, sighing in disappointment. "I didn't even get to draw my swords. What a letdown."
Sanji lit a cigarette, his visible eye wide. "Remind me never to piss the captain off when he's serious."
Nami stood at the broken gates, her hands covering her mouth. The monster that had haunted her nightmares, the tyrant who had murdered Bellemere and enslaved her village, was dead. Just like that. The chains that had bound her heart for eight years shattered completely. She fell to her knees, sobbing uncontrollably, but this time, they were tears of absolute, profound liberation.
The news spread through Cocoyasi Village like wildfire. When the villagers cautiously peered into Arlong Park and saw the mountain of unconscious Fishmen and the dead body of their oppressor, the island erupted.
That night, Cocoyasi Village threw the greatest party the East Blue had ever seen.
Massive bonfires were lit in the center of the village. Sanji took command of the local kitchens, cooking up a storm of massive feasts that kept the villagers and his captain fully fed. Zoro sat near a bonfire, challenging the toughest men in the village to drinking contests and drinking them all under the table. Usopp sat surrounded by a dozen starry-eyed children, telling them wildly exaggerated tales of how he, the great Captain Usopp, had personally intimidated the Sea Cow.
Nami laughed, danced, and drank, a genuine, radiant smile on her face that Genzo hadn't seen since she was a little girl.
As the party raged on into the early hours of the morning, a sudden, harsh voice cut through the music.
"HALT IN THE NAME OF THE MARINES!"
The music abruptly stopped. Standing at the edge of the village square was a platoon of Marines, led by a weasley, rat-faced man with a thin mustache. It was Marine Captain Nezumi.
Nezumi sneered, looking around at the celebrating villagers. He had come to collect his monthly bribe from Arlong, completely unaware of the massacre that had occurred earlier that day. "What is the meaning of this unauthorized gathering?! Where is Arlong?!"
Genzo stepped forward, his face twisting in disgust. He knew Nezumi was corrupt to the core. "Arlong is dead, Nezumi. His reign is over."
Nezumi's beady eyes widened in shock. "D-Dead?! Impossible!" He quickly scanned the crowd, his gaze locking onto the massive piles of treasure and gold that the villagers had recovered from Arlong Park. Greed instantly overtook his shock.
"Well, well!" Nezumi declared arrogantly, pointing his sword at the treasure. "If Arlong is dead, then all of his stolen wealth legally belongs to the World Government! Confiscate that gold immediately! And arrest these villagers for associating with pirates!"
Nami's blood boiled.
Before Nami could step forward to curse him, Luffy stood up from his pile of meat.
Luffy wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, his eyes locking onto the rat-faced Marine. He didn't say a word. He vanished.
Using the high-speed Soru technique, Luffy crossed the village square in a fraction of a second. He reappeared directly in front of Nezumi.
Nezumi barely had time to blink before Luffy's Armament Haki-coated fist slammed directly into the center of his chest.
CRACK!
The Marine Captain's ribcage caved in completely. Nezumi's eyes rolled into the back of his head as the sheer kinetic force of the punch instantly pulverized his vital organs. His lifeless body was launched backward like a cannonball, crashing through a stone wall and skidding to a halt. He was dead before he hit the ground.
The Marine platoon froze in absolute horror. A pirate had just murdered a Marine Captain in cold blood right in front of them.
"F-FIRE!" a terrified lieutenant screamed. "SHOOT THE BASTARD!"
The Marines raised their rifles, but before they could pull the triggers, Zoro and Sanji blurred into motion. In a matter of seconds, the entire Marine platoon was brutally beaten and left groaning in the dirt.
"Captain!" one of the Marines yelled, scrambling backward. "We have a battleship offshore! They'll blow this island to pieces!"
"Let them try," Luffy said coldly. He walked toward the coastline, his crew following right behind him.
Anchored a few hundred yards off the coast, the Marine battleship was already aiming its massive cannons at the village.
"Fire!" the commander on the ship ordered.
A massive cannonball rocketed toward the village. Luffy didn't flinch. He inflated his right arm, coating it in dense Armament Haki.
"Gum-Gum... Elephant Gun!"
Luffy's massive, black-coated fist stretched across the ocean, swatting the cannonball out of the air like a fly. His fist didn't stop. It continued its trajectory, slamming directly into the hull of the Marine battleship.
The impact was catastrophic. The heavy wooden hull shattered instantly. The ship broke cleanly in half, collapsing in on itself as massive explosions rocked the powder magazine. Within moments, the Marine battleship was sinking into the depths of the ocean, leaving only a handful of terrified Marines clinging to floating debris.
"Leave the survivors," Luffy ordered, turning his back on the sinking ship. "Let them report back to Headquarters. Let them tell the world that the Straw Hat Pirates are coming."
The next afternoon, the high-pitched, frantic ring of a Den Den Mushi echoed through the Fleet Admiral's office at Marineford.
Sengoku picked up the receiver, a deep sense of dread already pooling in his stomach.
"Fleet Admiral Sengoku, sir!" Commodore Brannew's voice trembled through the speaker. "We... we have a catastrophic situation in the East Blue!"
"What is it now, Brannew?" Sengoku groaned, rubbing his temples. "Did Garp fail to catch him?"
"Vice Admiral Garp hasn't arrived in the East Blue yet, sir!" Brannew stammered. "But Monkey D. Luffy just annihilated the Arlong Pirates in Cocoyasi Village! Furthermore... he murdered Marine Captain Nezumi in cold blood and completely sank a commissioned Marine battleship with a single punch! The survivors reported that he displayed advanced Armament Haki and devastating physical power!"
Sengoku stared at the snail, his jaw tight. Murdering a corrupt Marine Captain was one thing, but sinking a commissioned battleship was an act of open war against the World Government. The boy wasn't just strong; he was entirely ruthless when provoked.
"Sir!" Brannew continued frantically. "Should we issue a bounty immediately?! A pirate who sinks a battleship and possesses Conqueror's Haki requires a bounty of at least a hundred million Berries! We must warn the world!"
"Absolutely not!" Sengoku barked, slamming his hand down on his desk.
Brannew paused on the other end of the line, utterly bewildered. "S-Sir? But he's a massive threat!"
"Think, Brannew!" Sengoku hissed, his tactical mind racing. "If we issue a massive bounty for a rookie in the East Blue, the entire world will take notice! The Warlords, the Emperors, the underground brokers—they will all turn their eyes to him! The power vacuum and the scramble to recruit or assassinate a boy with Conqueror's Haki will plunge the Grand Line into absolute chaos!"
Sengoku took a deep, steadying breath. "We must contain this before it reaches the global stage. Do not issue a bounty. Keep this incident strictly classified. Contact Garp's battleship immediately. Tell him to intercept that ship at all costs, and bring his grandson in quietly!"
"Y-Yes, sir! Understood!"
Sengoku hung up the receiver and slumped back into his chair, looking incredibly old. He looked at Tsuru, who was frowning deeply.
"A headache," Sengoku muttered, pulling a bottle of aspirin from his desk drawer. "This boy is going to be the biggest headache this organization has ever faced."
Back in the East Blue, the Flying Raijin hummed beautifully as it prepared to depart.
The entire population of Cocoyasi Village had gathered at the docks to see them off. Nami stood on the deck, wearing a bright, genuine smile, waving down at Genzo and Nojiko. She had left 100 million Berries of Arlong's treasure with the village to rebuild, keeping the rest for the ship's treasury.
"Take care of her, Luffy!" Genzo yelled, pointing a stern finger at the captain. "If you ever make her cry, I'll hunt you down myself!"
"Shishishishishi! I won't let anyone make her cry, old man!" Luffy laughed, adjusting his straw hat.
Luffy turned around, walking up to the control room. His crew—Zoro, Nami, Usopp, and Sanji—stood ready. They had conquered the East Blue. They had faced a Warlord, defeated tyrants, and forged a bond that could not be broken.
"Alright, Nami!" Luffy shouted, pointing his finger toward the horizon. "Where to next?!"
Nami placed her hands on the holographic navigation console, her eyes shining with excitement and determination. She had already mapped out their course, knowing they had already handled their business in Loguetown. It was time for the real adventure to begin.
"Next stop, Captain!" Nami announced, charting the course directly toward the Red Line. "Reverse Mountain! We set sail for the Grand Line!"
The blue anti-gravity thrusters roared to life with the force of a hurricane, and the Flying Raijin shot forward into the endless blue, leaving their pasts behind and charting a course for the legends of the future.
