✨ Elizabeth's POV

Two years later…

Time had changed many things.

But the most beautiful change of all… was Angel.

She was now in the 12th grade.

And every single day, she lived up to the promise she once made—not just to me, but to herself.

I watched her closely over the years.

The late nights.

The early mornings.

The way she sat at that small table beneath the window, her books spread out, her face focused, her eyes determined.

She had grown.

Not just in age…

But in strength.

Angel became everything a mother could pray for—and more.

Her grades were outstanding. She didn't just pass—she excelled. Again and again, her name was called at the top of her class.

But it wasn't only her academics that made me proud.

She found her voice.

She joined the press club… and before long, she was elected president.

I remember the day she told me.

Her eyes shone with quiet excitement, but beneath it, I saw something deeper—

Confidence.

Purpose.

She also began speaking up for others—especially children who had no voice of their own. She carried herself with a sense of responsibility that made me pause sometimes and wonder…

When did my little girl grow into this?

---

But success did not come without pressure.

With just two months left before the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), I began to notice the change in her again.

Not weakness.

But worry.

She tried to hide it, but a mother always knows.

Some nights, she would sit in silence, her books open but her mind far away. Other times, she would sigh softly, pressing her fingers against her temples as if trying to hold herself together.

One evening, I found her staring at her notes, her expression tense.

"Angel…" I called gently.

She looked up quickly.

"I want to become the dux of WASSCE," she said, her voice steady—but her eyes uncertain. "Like Blessing."

I sat beside her, listening.

"It will help me get a scholarship," she continued softly. "I want to make you proud, Mama."

My heart tightened.

"You already have," I wanted to say.

But I knew this wasn't just about me.

This was about her dream.

---

Determined, Angel reached out to someone she admired deeply—the former dux of WASSCE 2019/2020, Blessing Jalieba, who was now studying in Singapore for her master's degree.

To my surprise…

She responded.

For the next two months, Blessing guided Angel—mentoring her, encouraging her, pushing her beyond her limits.

And Angel?

She gave it everything she had.

---

The day of the examination arrived.

That morning, I called her.

"Angel," I said, "bring me a cup of water."

She obeyed quietly, kneeling before me as she handed it over.

I took a sip… then gently sprayed the water across her back.

It was our tradition.

A blessing.

A moment passed down through generations.

I placed my hand lightly on her head.

"You will succeed," I said softly. "God will guide your path and grant you your heart's desires."

She closed her eyes.

And in that moment…

I saw it again.

That same girl.

The one who once cried in my arms.

But now—

She was stronger.

---

Angel wrote the WASSCE.

And when the results came…

She succeeded.
