Chapter 57 - Guardians of Light

The atmosphere outside the Heavenly Mist Palace was tense, filled with anticipation and desperation. Hundreds of cultivators gathered, their robes marking the remnants of sects that had barely survived the recent devastation.

The once unshakable Heavenly Mist Palace now faced a crowd demanding answers for the sudden annihilation of countless factions. Their voices merged into a chaotic wave of anger, fear, and confusion.

"I can't believe this is happening. All these sects, gone in an instant," one cultivator whispered, his disbelief clear.

"Why won't the Heavenly Mist Palace give us answers? We deserve to know what's happening!"

"Are they hiding something? How can they not have information on who's behind these massacres?"

"They're the ruling power, the protectors of the cultivation world. They should have answers!"

"I heard they're just as afraid as we are. That's why they're not saying anything."

"No one is safe anymore. We could be the next target."

"What are we supposed to do? Stay locked inside, fearing for our lives?"

The crowd grew louder, fear and suspicion spreading rapidly among them. Doubt took root, turning uncertainty into unrest.

"Why won't they give us answers?" a young cultivator shouted, his voice trembling. "We've lost everything, and they act as if they don't know what's happening!"

"They must be hiding something," another whispered, glancing around cautiously. "There's no way such a powerful sect could be caught off guard."

"Have you heard the rumors? They say the Heavenly Mist Palace is responsible for all these deaths!"

"But why? What reason could they have to massacre their own kind?"

"Perhaps they see us as threats. Who knows what their motives really are?"

The tension thickened as suspicion replaced trust, and allies began to doubt one another.

A sect leader stepped forward, his voice cutting through the noise. "We demand the truth! We deserve to know if the Heavenly Mist Palace is responsible for these massacres!"

At that moment, representatives of the Heavenly Mist Palace appeared at the grand entrance. Their calm expressions contrasted sharply with the chaos before them.

"We have been investigating these massacres diligently," one of them said, his voice steady. "However, we are still gathering information and evidence. We assure you, justice will be served."

The response only deepened the unrest, offering neither clarity nor comfort. Whispers spread again, sharper and more restless than before.

Soon, a rumor began to circulate, its origin unknown yet its impact undeniable. It quickly reached even the most seasoned spirit-severing cultivators.

"This is madness! How can one person possess such power?" one of them murmured.

"I heard Liang Yifei is behind all of this. Can it be true?" another asked, his voice filled with fear.

"They say Liang Yifei is responsible. But who is he? Why is he doing this?"

"I heard he's seeking revenge for the destruction of the Free Heart Pavilion. But is it true?"

"Revenge or not, it doesn't justify the slaughter of innocent cultivators!"

"Our power means nothing against this enemy. We're helpless!"

Fear and anger intertwined as the crowd searched for someone to blame.

"I saw him, I saw Liang Yifei!" a cultivator cried, his voice shaking. "He's the one behind all of this. I saw him cut down our sect's leader without even breaking a sweat!"

"No, it can't be just one person," another argued. "It has to be a group working together."

As voices clashed, frustration reached its peak.

A voice echoed from within the palace, calm yet distant. "Rest assured, we do not take these matters lightly. We will reveal the truth in due time."

The crowd fell into uneasy silence, doubt lingering in every expression.

"It feels like they've abandoned us, left us to fend for ourselves," a female cultivator cried, her voice filled with despair.

"I won't sit back and let everything be destroyed!" another shouted.

"Maybe we should unite, form an alliance. Strength in numbers."

"Even united, can we defeat an enemy we know nothing about?"

Despite their fear, a shared resolve began to take shape. They could no longer rely on the Heavenly Mist Palace.

As whispers turned into plans, a fragile unity emerged among them. They sought truth, justice, and a way to survive.

From this unrest, a new force was born—the Guardians of Light Alliance.

Deep within a restricted area of the Heavenly Mist Palace, a secluded spirit pond lay undisturbed. Two women stood within its clear waters, their presence calm yet imposing.

Li Yan, with her flowing purple hair, carried a captivating aura. Beside her stood Mi Ling, the Palace Lord, her black hair falling to her waist, her expression composed yet thoughtful.

"Mi Ling, what is it this time? A new enemy causing trouble?" Li Yan teased lightly. "You know the world outside is always filled with chaos. It's best not to concern yourself with such trivial matters."

Mi Ling sighed softly, her gaze steady. "Normally, I wouldn't. But the scale of these massacres is unprecedented. And I have a feeling that Liang Yifei is behind it all."

Li Yan chuckled. "Liang Yifei, your favorite enemy. Always causing trouble, isn't he? But are you sure it's him?"

Mi Ling nodded, her tone firm. "Yes. The precision and ruthlessness… it matches his style. He's behind it, but he leaves no trace."

"Well," Li Yan said, tracing the water's surface with her fingers, "if it is him, he certainly knows how to make things interesting."

Mi Ling allowed a faint smile. "There is some satisfaction in that. But it's also frustrating. He always stays one step ahead."

Li Yan leaned back, her laughter soft but clear. "You take things too seriously. Sometimes, it's better to embrace the chaos and enjoy the uncertainty."

Mi Ling only smiled in response, her thoughts elsewhere.

Li Yan swam closer, her tone playful. "Let them search, let them question. It's an entertaining game."

"You do enjoy chaos," Mi Ling replied with a slight smirk.

Li Yan grinned. "Of course. Perhaps it's time you let go a little and let things unfold naturally."

Mi Ling turned her gaze toward the palace entrance. "Perhaps."

At that moment, a faint sound broke the stillness. Both women turned as a young disciple approached from the mist.

She stopped at the edge of the pond, her posture respectful. "I beg for an audience, Palace Lord Mi Ling," she said, her voice steady despite a hint of tension.

Mi Ling nodded. "You may speak. What brings you here?"

The disciple stepped forward and bowed. "Palace Lord, I bring important news. Cultivators across the world are uniting under an alliance called the Guardians of Light. Their goal is to confront all threats—including the Heavenly Mist Palace."

Mi Ling's expression sharpened. "They intend to oppose us?"

"Yes," the disciple replied. "They believe the current chaos is due to division and failed leadership. They seek unity and view the palace as something to control."

Mi Ling remained calm, though her gaze deepened. "So they have already judged us."

The disciple nodded. "They believe the palace has failed its duty and allowed this chaos to happen. They seek justice and a new order."

Mi Ling raised an eyebrow slightly. "And are they truly a threat?"

"They are growing quickly," the disciple said. "Many are joining them. If this continues, they could reshape the balance of power."

Li Yan exchanged a glance with Mi Ling, amusement flickering in her eyes. "It seems Liang Yifei has stirred quite the storm. Uniting enemies under one banner is no small feat."

Mi Ling studied the disciple for a moment, then spoke calmly. "What is your name?"
