Chapter 4 - Worshippers

As he drew closer to the building, he could see the Titans converging on it from all sides. They were already tearing into the walls.

Kenji's blood ran cold as he realized he might be too late. But he refused to give up. He dodged past the rubble and crevices, racing inside the orphanage.

"Guys! Where are you?" he shouted, his voice hoarse with fear and desperation. The Titans' roars echoed through the halls, the sound growing louder with every passing moment.

Kenji's heart thundered in his chest as he raced through the orphanage, searching for any sign of his friends. But the building was in chaos, with debris scattered everywhere and Titans tearing apart the walls. He felt a knot of dread form in his stomach as he realized he might not make it out alive.

Suddenly, he heard a familiar voice. "Kenji! Over here!"

He turned and saw his fellow orphans huddled together in a corner. They were safe, but terrified.

"We have to get out of here," Kenji said urgently. "Follow me."

He led them to the back of the orphanage, where he had spotted a small hole in the wall. It was just big enough for them to crawl through.

Kenji gestured for the orphans to crawl through the hole in the wall. "Hurry, this way!" he urged, as he kept a watchful eye on the Titans outside.

The three closest orphans, a boy named Henrik and two girls named Hanna and Freya, were the last ones to crawl through the hole. Once they were all out, Kenji blocked the hole with a nearby wooden plank.

Hanna looked up at Kenji, her eyes wide with shock. "Kenji, how are you still alive?" she asked, disbelief written all over her face.

"We thought you were dead," Freya added, her voice shaking.

Kenji smiled weakly at them. "I'm still alive. I managed to escape the Titans."

"But why didn't you just run away like everyone else?" Henrik asked, his brow furrowed in confusion.

Kenji hesitated for a moment before answering. "I couldn't just leave you guys behind. You're like my family. I had to come back and make sure you were safe."

The three orphans exchanged glances, a look of gratitude on their faces.

"Thank you, Kenji," Hanna said softly.

Freya nodded in agreement. "Yes, thank you for saving us."

Kenji smiled at them, a sense of relief washing over him. "Of course. We stick together, no matter what."

"You're a true hero, Kenji," one of them said. "We're so lucky to have you with us."

Another orphan chimed in, "Yeah, without you, we might not have made it out of here alive. You really saved us."

Kenji felt a surge of gratitude and pride as his fellow orphans praised him, but he knew that there was no time to waste. He blushed slightly and replied, "Thank you all, but let's not linger here too long. We need to find a way out of this place before the Titans return."

The group of orphans moved in silence; their faces grim as they made their way out of the orphanage. They huddled together, their hands clasped tightly, trying to comfort each other as they navigated the desolate streets. The only sounds were the muffled thud of their footsteps and the occasional roar of a distant Titan.

As they walked, one of the orphans spoke up, "We're going to make it through this. Now that Kenji's with us, nothing can stop us."

Kenji shook his head, "Don't say that. We can't let our guard down. Complacency is a huge red flag."

The orphans laughed and asked, "What's a red flag?"

Kenji was about to reply when he suddenly froze. His eyes were fixed on something in the corner, and the other orphans noticed his strange behavior.

"What is it, Kenji?" one of them asked.

Without a word, Kenji pointed to a nearby alleyway. The orphans followed his gaze and saw a Titan lurking there, silently watching them.

Fear gripped them as they realized that they were in grave danger. They knew they had to act quickly. But before they could make a move, the Titan lunged towards them, its massive jaws snapping shut on one of the orphans.

The sound of his screams echoed through the streets, sending chills down the others' spines. "No!" they cried in unison, their faces contorted in horror and grief.

As the Titan began to chew on the orphan's limp body, their hearts pounding in their chests. "We have to get out of here!" one of them yelled. "We can't leave him behind!" another cried.

But it was too late. Kenji's heart raced as he watched the Titan devour the helpless child. He knew they had to keep moving if they wanted to survive.

"Come on, we have to go," he said, his voice trembling with fear.

The orphans ran for their lives, tears streaming down their faces, their souls shattered by the brutal reality of their world.

They continued running, with Kenji at the front, leading the way. He knew that they had to find safety soon, or they would all meet the same fate as the orphan who had been taken by the Titans.

As Kenji turned the corner, he came across a surreal sight that sent a shiver down his spine. A group of people dressed in white robes stood before a towering Titan, bowing down to it as if it were a deity. Strangely enough, the Titan didn't seem to be attacking them, but stood still, observing them with an eerie calmness.

Kenji felt a mixture of fear and confusion wash over him. He knew the Titans were relentless creatures, driven only by their insatiable hunger for human flesh. So why was this Titan not attacking the group of people?

As he watched in horror, the group in white robes began to chant in a strange language. Kenji could feel a sense of unease growing within him, and he knew that they had to get out of there before things took a turn for the worse.

Kenji quickly glanced behind him to see if the orphans had caught up. He frantically tried to steer the orphans in another direction, but before he could say anything, the worshippers noticed them. The cultists immediately stopped their bowing and turned their heads towards the group. Their eerie smiles sent chills down Kenji's spine as they began to move towards them, closing in quickly.

Kenji knew that they had to fight, even though they were outnumbered and outmatched. He looked around, trying to find something he could use as a weapon.

"Stay back!" he shouted. The orphans huddled behind him, fear etched on their faces as the worshippers continued to approach, their eyes fixed on the children.
