For a long time, Eleanora did not move.
Cathain slept in her arms, his dark hair scattered across her lap, his fingers still curled loosely around the fabric of her dress.
The library was a disaster.
Books lay scattered across the floor; sunlight streamed through the tall windows, illuminating the mess they had made.
Yet all Eleanora could see was him.
The man who had once sat upon the imperial throne; the entire world had once been placed beneath his feet.
The man whose name had made nobles tremble, and armies kneel.
Her emperor.
Her sinner.
Her Sun.
A faint smile touched her lips.
My Sun.
She had not called him that in a very long time.
Not since the days she started chasing after him, trying to be the perfect crown princess to stand beside him till she went all the way to standing beside him beneath the imperial banners, when the people looked upon their emperor and empress as the light that would guide their empire into a better future.
