"Are you going to keep squatting there?" Anne Sutton asked. "Come on up and sit for a bit. That must be tiring."
"What if they find me?"
He peeked his head out, glancing around furtively.
"Are you planning to hide here forever?" Anne Sutton said. "If you go out and get your shot now, this will all be over."
"No," Ian said. "When my dad realizes I'm gone, he'll come find me!"
"Aren't you afraid a bad person might find you hiding like this? What if they carry you away?"
"But you don't seem like a bad person." He looked at Anne Sutton, feeling an unexpected sense of warmth from her.
Anne Sutton smiled.
Before long, Vera Wells came in, and Ian scrambled back under the table in fright. "Holy crap!" Vera exclaimed. "Something huge just went down at the hospital."
"What happened?"
"Dr. Linden's grandson ran off while he was supposed to get a shot. Now everyone's looking for him."
Hearing "Dr. Linden," Anne Sutton froze for a second. "You mean… Anna Linden?"
