The next morning dawned bright and clear, the sunlight slipping through the gaps in the curtains like it had no idea what had happened the night before.
I woke up to the sound of pots clattering in the kitchen. My mother's voice, sharp and unmistakable, floated up the stairs.
"Breakfast is ready! Don't let it get cold!"
I groaned and pulled the blanket over my head. Five more minutes. Just five.
A knock on my door. Then another. Then the door swung open without waiting for an answer.
Lilith stood there, already dressed in a simple housedress, her hair pulled back. She looked at me with that knowing smirk she always had when she caught me being lazy.
"Still sleeping?" she asked. "Mother's been calling for ten minutes."
"Let her call," I mumbled into my pillow.
"She'll come up here herself if you don't move. You know how she gets."
I knew she was right. I sat up, rubbing my eyes. "Fine. I'm coming. You don't have to stand there watching me."
