Lilith's face was pale, but she didn't step back. Her hands, still holding her phone, were trembling, but her voice was steady when she spoke.
"You're right, Mrs. Halton. I did cause a scene at the engagement party. I was jealous, bitter, and I acted terribly. I hurt my sister, I embarrassed your family, and I've regretted it every day since."
Minerva's eyebrows rose, clearly expecting tears or retreat. Instead, Lilith held her ground.
"I can't undo what I did. I can't take back the pain I caused. But I've spent the last year trying to become someone better. Someone my sister can be proud of. Someone I can be proud of."
Minerva's smile returned, colder now. "How touching. And I suppose you expect us to simply forget the past? To welcome you with open arms after you threw yourself at my son? After you nearly destroyed his engagement?"
