I watched Noel as we girls silently ate in a corner of his guest room. He still hadn't woken up after his fight with Zayn. But his breathing was steady, and his color was returning. Eumhun had been by his side the entire time, holding his hand, her eyes filled with worry.
According to the Sultan's doctors, he would not awaken for a few more days, perhaps even a week. The strain on his body was too much, especially since he hadn't been trained to use so much mana and his body wasn't used to the raw physical strength of the Emissary. I wondered what Vadim would think of all this. He'd probably be proud, but also worried sick.
I sighed and finished my meal of flatbread and hummus. It was good, but I barely tasted it. My mind was on other things. Like the looming war with the Abyss, the future of my kingdom, and the fate of my people.
Sufiya walked in with Farid, both of their expressions were serious. "The Sultan wants to see you."
