"You know you've grown up, but I still think of you as that small, skinny little girl who always got sick," Yvette Quick was used to reminding Jane Sampson.
"When you were young, you were thin and small, like you'd fall over with a gust of wind. You only ate a little bit, and even when you did, it seemed like it didn't help; you never gained weight, and fell ill at the slightest breeze. Every time I took you out to play, I'd always worry about bringing an extra coat for you, afraid you'd get cold."
Yvette laughed as she said this, "There was this one time in the summer when Thomas Lancaster and a few others and I planned to take you fishing by the lake. Before leaving, I was at home looking for a coat to bring for you, and my mom laughed at me, saying it was thirty-eight degrees in the summer and I still wanted to bring you a coat."
